+infiniteMPG
We are travelling to Lake Louisa State Park in Florida this weekend and the park is located in Clermont, Florida. The zip code according the the park website and everything else we found is 34714. When we try to search on geocaches, or do a pocket querey on zip code 34714 on the GC website we get an error message that the zip code is not found in the database. We managed to track down a geocache in the park (and the only one in that whole region of Florida... come on Clermont cachers!) and do the querey, but why is the zip code not found??? Keystone
Maybe that zipcode is one that the postal service has added in the past few years, perhaps due to booming development in the local area? The zipcode database used by Geocaching.com relies on third party data and it isn't updated regularly. Link to comment
+trainlove
So Search by Address. P.S. I have a copy of some zipcode database that came with an old mapping program I got at a Salvation Army for a dollar. It's coordinates seem to be the same for all of the zips I've looked at. Actually have never seen any discrepency. P.P.S. It used to be that the smallest zip code was 01001 GCYWT5 Multi-cache GZ-01001 #1 in USA but a google search shows that 00501 exists. Link to comment
+StarBrand
Last year even the USPS web site was not up-to-date with a few new zip codes in Nevada - took about 3 months before they showed on the website after they were created. Link to comment
+Trucker Lee
That zip doesn't come up on a zip code map either, looks like a new one. Zip code map Link to comment
+infiniteMPG
So Search by Address.I don't see where you can search for a cache or do a PQ via street address. Where is this feature at? I know I can do GPS Visualizer and get the coords for a street address, then do a PQ by those coords, but that's a lot to do to get around a zip code that's not listed. Link to comment

And it's near Clermont which is a little dinky town without much around. Never know about the postal service but I don't see that as exploding with growth (there is only one earth cache and no regular caches in that whole area). Link to comment

It's the very first thing on Hide & Seek A Cache. Right above By Zip Code, and ALL THE REST... P.S. Something there that looks redundant is the basis for at least one puzzle. An address can be as simple as "Lake Louisa State Park, Florida", or "Florida" but that would not be what you want. Edited February 14, 2008 by trainlove Link to comment
