I was chatting with a friend who likes to ski about whether or not a geocaching event run on skis is a real possibility. Has it been done before with caches hidden on the runs... either in trees or on poles. I wouldn't want folks to have to drop their skis to trek into the woods.

And would everyone in attendance have to sign some kind of waiver so when they crash while looking at their GPS it wouldn't be our fault! ; )

I think an XC ski cache event would be doable and interesting. There's somewhat of a precedent in orienteering - an entire segment of the sport called Ski Orienteering, in which you find all the control markers (cache equiv) on XC skis.

Downhill skiing....hmmm.

The purpose of an event is to meet as cachers and discuss geocaching. Events should not be all about finding caches.

I could see holding such an event at the lodge or something with an invite to go skiing afterward but that is about the extent of it.

I've tried to have informal XC Ski-ocache events several times (informal because in Michigan, you can't predict how good the snow will be more than 24 hours in advance). Only one person has shown up in three years. I have fun, though.

I'll bet you find all of the temp caches! ; )

I clean up in the raffle, too!
