drewallen42 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I have a Laptop and a home computer and wanted to download TOPO 2008 on both. I only have 1 GPS unit and only want to use it with that 1 gps unit. There are sometimes when I have my laptop and others when I don't. Will this work? Thanks. Quote
+Segerguy Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 As Timpat said....yes! No unlock codes are needed for Topo 2008. Load it on 3 computers if you want...what the heck,,,,make it an even 4! Quote
+Chuy! Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 The licensing agreement says no, but everyone does it. SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR GARMIN SOFTWARE ==================================================== 2. YOU MAY: a) install and use one copy of the Product on a single computer or network. This copy is to be used by only a single user at a time. If you wish to use the Product for more users, you will need an additional license for each user. make one copy of the Product for archive or backup purposes. c) use a copy of the Product on a home or portable computer if that copy is never loaded at the same time it is loaded on your primary computer. Grasscatcher Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 What it's saying is.....YES.....Multiple computers OK (and GPSrs) Restricted to a single USER (You the owner) Quote

This is the same with Magellan mapping products. Quote
+QC 49ers Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I've been able to load it on more than one computer and more than one GPSr. Quote
Grasscatcher Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 This is REALLY not a difficult concept......... Topo is restricted to a single USER. Again......USER! You, as the owner, can install it on multiple computers, and GPSrs, as long as YOU only actively operate one at a time. No one else can be operating the other PC or laptop,or the 2nd or 3rd,or??? GPSr that your copy of Topo is installed on, while you are operating one. Quote
geoprincesss Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 But remember...if you are out geocaching with your gps and someone at home turns on your pc and looks at the topo you have loaded, you will go blind. Always take a buddie when geocaching so he can drive you home. Quote

It is way MORE interesting to do geocaching female TOPO areas than buddies’. Thank you very much. Why do you people sweat the small stuff all the time??? Will Garmin come to your house and take your gps and put you in jail because you are running 2 or 3 copies of TOPO or whatever at the same time? No! So load it up and forget about those licence agreements. The very first point of licence agreement should be: We, manufacturer (put ANY name you want) created excellent, bug free product. We will provide you with occasional software updates to Enhance your purchase but that will be very rarely since we spend a lot of time designing and testing it. So does it say like that? No???? Then I have no much respect for them and all software should be free as it is. Quote
+SriSoKoSu Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 <snip> ... and all software should be free as it is. Don't want to start a war here, but if you had the slighest idea how much time and money it costs to produce any decent software, you'd probably think twice before making a statement like this.
