jonslater
Hi, Not sure if this is the right area for this post, but its the only one UK based. Im taking up hiking and looking for good guide books with gps co-ordinates provided. Im only planning day hikes on no more than a few hours. Are the Jarrolds Pathfinder or short walks guides the best for short(ish) hikes ? thanks Quote Link to comment
+PopUpPirate
The Pathfinder are very good, with OS maps embedded into the pages. Having said that, the short walks look equally good... just shorter! Buy both, they're amongst the best you can buy. There's also some good online sources, such as http://www.go4awalk.com which is very GPS friendly, and cheap too. Quote Link to comment

+PopUpPirate
I don't think they have full waypoints in them for the whole walk, but they have start / finish points (thankfully all the walks in the NW book seem to be circular). The weblink above though has proper routes. Quote Link to comment

+Moote
Another great website of walks can be found at Walking World they have several thousand UK based walks, and you can also download walks to use with a PDA and Memory Map Edit just realised that Walking World will also work with many other GPS devices if you use GPS Utility to convert the RXF files. Mera
HI, A good site and indeed magazine is Country walking (monthly). If you visit the Country Walking site you can download a selection of free walks which include downloadable waypoints. Another superb site is Walking Britain (all free walks) not sure if they feature GPS facility, but fantastic for walks. Quote Link to comment
+tedwin
Walking Demon publish some nice books of walks for UK and Europe, all the walks are fully waypointed and they also have a cd from which you can download the waypoints and trackpoints for all their walks. www.walking.demon.co.uk/index.htm Edited February 6, 2008 by tedwin Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
"Shepherd's Walks" do some nice stuff but unfortunately, they're restricted to Cumbria, Northumberland and the Borders. Quote Link to comment
