Drunk Caching

My psychology text says that folks who are drunk and hide money often don't remember where they hid it when they're sober. When they become drunk again, however, they seem to find what they hid right away.

:) Have you ever gone caching while drunk? (answers to this one could get interesting!!)

:) Have you been unable to find the same cache while sober (and the other way around)?

I got talked into doing a night cache at an event. This was an UsMorrows all day and into the night event (infamous for going 20+ hours for a really good'un) and they tend to become more adult after dark when the family folk toddle off home to put their kids to bed.

So I got talked into doing Strangers in the Night.

It was wet and cold and muddy and it seemed like there was a hundred of us tromping through that swamp. Many (the one's not driving) feeling the effects of my patented Soylent Green. :) (mostly tequila and midori with some OJ for color) :):)

There was NO freakin' backtrail to to the fire tacks and lots of folks became lost doing this cache. :)

Here's the approximation of my log:

I was there, but now I'm gone.

I hope these words: "I HATE GEOCACHERS!!!!!"

Will carry on.....

I wasn't as think as Skammers drunk I was..... :)

Yes I had fun. I admit it. I wouldn't recommend this to a noob as a first night hunt though..... This one is eeeeeeeeeeeeevil! :)

Word to the wise: WAYPOINT your car and use the backtrack feature. :)

So you'd need both a sober driver AND a sober cacher to escort you on this adventure...

OT Personal Note: I have had WAY more fun since I quit drinking in '79 than I did before!

A more pertinent note: A drunk cacher at a recent event, too sloshed to sit up straight, was twice stopped from driving away with his 4-year old son in the car. He got by the third person that tried to stop him. They got home safely, but it caused huge concern and led to our ban on alcohol at all AGA events.

Yeah, saw that once at an event up in Dallas. Carload of younger cachers. (early 20's) I was really disappointed in them for not listening to reason. :)

I haven't drunk much since meetin' up with the Snoogstress who doesn't drink, but I'll still drink at a campout event or an all day and into the night occasion. However, I'm now one of those family folk, so unless we take separate cars, I'll be toddling off to put my kid to bed. :)

Drunk caching...no. But I have been studying abroud in Rome for the past month where I have been doing a lot of caching too. I thought it would be a good idea to mark the hotel in case I got lost. One of the first nights, we all went out and I was one of the few that didn't drink. Some of the people that did could hardly walk. With our luck, the subway system was closed so we had to walk a mile back to the hotel. Luckily I had the GPSr with me cuz Im nerdy like that and I was able to guide the drunks to the hotel. Hooray for GPS!!!!!!!

This Saturday I took a muggle friend caching. We weren't actually drunk, but we did have a few beers at the local oasis before venturing out. However, an hour and a half of walking in 15 degree weather and 8 inches of snow quickly (like the first 5 minutes!) erased any ahcohol-related effects. After finding two (and freezing our keisters off), we went to the ski lodge clubhouse for some hot wings and a few brewskis. :D

Due to a couple of computer "issues" caused by drunken computerin', I made the decision a few years ago to not turn on the computer if I've had anything to drink. No computer, no coords. I guess I could go caching after drinking, but I would be limited to walking distance caches, and I would just have to wander around aimlessly.

Worse that Drinking & Caching... is Drinking & Logging. Once I had to go back and "edit" logs that I'd written the night before. When I wrote them, I thought they were hilarious :yikes: ... next morning, not so much  .

Excellent point. I don't believe I've ever cached under the influence of more than 3 beers, but drunk logging? That happens. :yikes:
