+M0zez Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Hi I have got a new PC (waited ages for it) and installed all my programs for geocaching. Vista, Map Source 6.13, Google Earth 4.2. When I want to view a cache from the Geocaching KML in GE the page opens in Internet Explorer. I dont use this browser as it has problems opening .gpx files, when I click the GPX eXchange File button an IE download window appears with an option to find the program associated with .gpx. I have made sure the .gpx is associated to MapSource but still IE goes haywire and I get an error message. I have looked in GE's options to change the associated browser from IE to Firefox but did not see an option for this. Can anyone help? I hate using IE, I need my firefox. Many thanks M0zez Quote
+M0zez Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Hi Guys I have managed to sort it out, for those of you who may be experiencing the same problem this is what I did. In Vista, Control Panel > Default Programs > Set program access and Computer Defaults > Choose Custom and click on the down arrow to the right > Choose Firefox as the default browser and disable access to IE. +FollowMeChaps Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I'm no techi but try the following in Firefox: Tools Options Tick the "Always check to see that Firefox is the default browser on startup" box Also worth pressing the 'check now' button that follows this Quote
+FollowMeChaps Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 (edited) Sorry M0zez, our posts must have crossed - I bow to your superior Knowledge. FMC As a postscript can anyone advise on a related problem I have. My GE icons for geocaches have all reverted to those yellow push pins - this happened some while ago. I have uninstalled then reinstalled GE twice and redownloaded the Geocaching KML but still the same. Can anyone advise please? Edited January 19, 2008 by FollowMeChaps Quote
+M0zez Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Sorry M0zez, our posts must have crossed - I bow to your superior Knowledge. FMC LOL thanks, I checked the firefox options and that option was ticked, on check now it reported that firefox is set as default browser. Thanks for the advice tho. As to the icons to pushpins, I have experienced this from day one using the KML overlay. I have found that the closer I zoom in the icons change to pushpins. A quick turn on my mouse wheel to zoom out a small distance usually reverts the pushpins back to icons. I have find myself using the Geocaching Google Maps more and more. M0zez Quote
