+4 Sneetches and a Fwiskas Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 (edited) "Must-Do Caches" It’s always nice to cache while traveling and some caches truly give a sense of the place you are visiting, offer great viewing vantage points or take you to significant landmarks. It’s not at all uncommon to ask ‘what are the best restaurants in town,’ ‘where is the best beach’ or to consult a travel guide book to make sure you don’t miss the greatest local attractions. So why not have the same for Geocaches? I think it would be great to have a ‘Must Do Caches’ guide. Whether this is integrated into the Geocaching website right on the cache description or stand alone listing, I would love to be able to know the handful of caches that locals and visitors deem are the must-do caches. What do others think? Edited January 18, 2008 by 4 Sneetches and a Fwiskas Quote
+briansnat Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 One of the problems with this is that what is a "must do" for one person might be a "must avoid" for others. Quote
+StarBrand Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I tend to agree mostly with Briansnat - however, one way to find the local must-do caches is look for favorites bookmark lists on a cache and look to see what other caches are listed. Do your felow geocachers a favor and start up a public bookmark list of favorites. Chances are most caches on the list will be somewhat near the cache you found the list on to begin with. Quote
+steve p Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 When I browse cache listings they sometimes are shown as being on someone's bookmark list. If you see a bookmark list, click on it. Often the bookmarking cacher is a local and will have listed their favorites. Quote
+rstefano52 Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 This smacks of applying a "grade" (for lack of a better term) to caches and I'm not sure that's what caching is all about. However, I am going to Ireland in June and I have already contacted some Ireland cachers to help me identify caches that I might be able to do while I am there on my tour. Since I will be limited on my route, I would have to plan it carefully so that I can pick up a few caches here and there along the route. A "must do" list in this case would be great but I don't want to cause any hurt feelings if someone's cache did not make the list. Quote
+joranda Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Any adventure type caches that I find is a must do to me. Those are the ones I love the most. After I do them all up, it's back to the ever plentyful park and grabs. Quote

What I wish existed was a way that you could create a cache preferences profile that could be used to cross-reference popular, favorite caches with people of your same or similar likeness. All grades would be hidden factors. This is what I would do...when we hit certain parts of the state I'll ask cachers I know or post a topic in the forum asking for preferences in a particular city. Quote
