Is becoming a forum moderator the same as an admin? If not, how is it done?

Admins are employees of Groundspeak. With obvious exceptions (Jeremy, OpinioNate, etc.), forum moderators are volunteers like myself.

One does not need to be a Volunteer Cache Reviewer in order to be a forum moderator. There are several volunteers who are only forum moderators; they do not review geocaches for publication.

The process for becoming a forum moderator is similar to my post about becoming a volunteer cache reviewer, found here in the FAQ thread that's pinned at the top of the "Getting Started" forum. Groundspeak would be looking for active involvement in the Groundspeak Forums, including many helpful posts to answer questions, and a positive demeanor even when criticized.
