Garmin TOPO DEM on Colorado

Recommended Posts

Planning on buying the Colorado when it comes out and had a few questions.

1.) Does Mapsource TOPO version 3.02 contain the DEM data so it will show up with shaded relief on the Colorado?

2.) What differences are there between 3.02 and 2008?

3.) is 2008 locked to a single unit?

Thanks.

I've never opened or loaded the 3.02 topo and am debating if I should sell it on ebay and buy topo 2008 or just keep it and use it on the Colorado. I plan on getting City Navigator NT 2008 for the Colorado as well.

3.02 doesn't have DEM data

2008, in addition to the DEM data, has somewhat update roads, POIs and contouring based on the DEM data rather than the metric contours on the 1:100,000 maps from the USGS. Also, 2008 comes on a DVD and installs on your hard drive by default. 3.02 comes on 3 CDs and defaults to needing to insert a disk when you want to use it. It can be installed on the hard drive without much trouble, however.

The roads alone look like a huge improvment in rural areas. Up by my cabin the old version didn't even show my road. The new version not only shows my road but all the 2 tracks connected to it and their names.
