plypen
Quick Q, when u r cashing is it better to have ur GPSR set to True North or Magnetic North, Or is there a standard. And how much difference is position does this cause. Also how does that apply to using a compass within say 30' of ur cach Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
It's your choice as thay both should work equally as well. If your compass doesn't have the feature to set the "declination" then you should probably set your GPS to magnetic north. That way you'll be able to use the bearings shown on the GPS on your compass without having to do any additional math. Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
For almost all Geocaches, it makes no difference at all wether you use magnetic or true North. When you are within 30 feet of a cache, put the compass and the GPS away and start looking for likely hiding places. Quote Link to comment
+Airmapper
I think the only case where it would matter is if a compass is required as part of the cache hunt. If you did not have a compass you could substitute your GPS if it was set to Magnetic. Quote Link to comment
