+matt an amy from tc Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Hello just another newbie qustion. I am looking at the etrex legend hcx on ebay and saw a nice price. Has anyone bought from there, where you happy with your purches? Is ebay a good place to buy a nice gps uint? Do I really need this or is this a plaw from the seller to sell his product? 'I AM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR GARMIN. ALL UNITS ARE NEW AND COME WITH A 1YR WARRANTY, AND MY COMPANY RECEIPT. BEWARE OF OTHERS SELLING ON EBAY WHO ONLY GIVE YOU A EBAY OR PAYPAL RECEIPT. GARMIN WILL NOT HONOR THERE WARRANTY WITH A EBAY OR PAYPAL RECEIPT. BUY ONLY FROM A AUTHORIZED DEALER. ' Quote
+Miragee Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 It has been my experience that some of the brand new units being sold on eBay can be purchased for the same price or less from online merchants like offroute.com or Amazon.com, depending on what the seller is charging for shipping, and whether you have to pay tax from the online merchant, or not. For used or discontinued GPS units, eBay can be a good place to buy for a reasonable price. I bought my first two GPS units on eBay and over the years have bought several hundred other items. The key is checking the seller's feedback to make sure they are reliable. Quote
gallet Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I buy lots of gps from ebay and have been very happy with the service. I've used these people http://stores.ebay.com/AFRIEL-LLC for all my purchases and they have been efficient and easy to deal with. Quote
gpsblake Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Are they on this list from garmin.com ??? http://www8.garmin.com/cgi-bin/online/onli...IT=Show+Dealers Quote
QuigleyJones Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I have this vague recollection that Garmin does not give "AUTHORIZED DEALER" status to anyone selling on ebay, even the ones that have the status for their actual store. Could be wrong or changed. Quote
+tabulator32 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) I looked into trying to be a reseller at one time for Garmin and Magellan and I recall something about specifically prohibiting businesses that sold their product by online auction. They want a professional brick and mortar and/or professional storefront website. The discontinued stuff, of course, will be found on Ebay. I also remember them saying I had to sell at least so many thousands of dollars worth of product every quarter or something and I was looking to start out smaller than that with my budget. Having said that, I but stuff from Ebay all the time and JUST purchased my Etrex Legend from Ebay and it works fine! I ALWAYS look for TWO things: Percentage of positive feedback (99.0% or higher is usually pretty safe) and lots of sales (power sellers don't get that way by ripping people off). +fratermus Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 (power sellers don't get that way by ripping people off). In my experience, "Power Seller" status is one of the danger signs. (only partly joking) Quote
+Ernmark Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 ..I'm a little wary of ebay listings that only show the "stock photo". If you can see a picture of the actual unit they're selling, + their feedbacks, etc - you can get a decent idea of the credibility of the seller. Example - look at listings for Magellan eXplorists & it will say something like "used twice", but in the picture the arrow on the joystick is completely rubbed off (that takes a while!) - now if the buttons look pristine, I'd believe the lister. With a stock photo (unless they're selling quantities "NIB") -who knows? Quote
