PQ Email Problem (12/21)

Sometime between 12:04AM PST and 1:08AM PST, something happened. I have three PQs that should have run last night. One had not been set and that was changed this morning when I noticed it. The other two ran. The first at 12:04 and that one was received. The second ran at 1:08 and that one has not been received. The one I added today ran, but has not been received as yet. I added that one about 20 minutes ago.

Anybody else having this problem today?

All five off mine ran last night. Only one of them was received on my email address. I had thought that the issue may be related to the issues of Comcast not showing GC generated emails on the web. (see PQs not running? (Dec 16th) )

I would suspect that the problem does not lie there since some of the PQs were received. That is unless Comcast did something late last night.

I wonder as I'm with Comcast also...

I ran a copy of the PQ at 10:52am and no email.

I logged a note on a deleted cache of mine and no email (I am getting other emails).

I had to try the same thing and what do you know, I logged a note on an archived cache of mine and I have not received the email.

Strange.

To add to the strangeness -

I sent an email to WM thru his profile, with a copy to me. He got his, I never saw the copy. He was able to send an email to me thru the profile, which I received fine.

So there's something going on with the automated emails that GC.com is sending out (it seems).

I got this note from Groundspeak today:

At this time, your email provider is throttling emails coming from us. Please contact your email provider to let them know you wish to continue receiving emails from Groundspeak.

And this response from Comcast.

Thank you for contacting Comcast.

After reviewing your email, it appears as though there might be an issue with blocked email. To ensure correct handling of this issue, the mail administrator for the sending domain will need to visit the following address and submit a "Blocked Provider Request Form": xxxxxx

Customer Security Assurance cannot address blacklist issues from individual customers.

Please note that Comcast is not blocking individual senders, but only mail servers that have sent high volumes of spam to the Comcast.net domain.

Requests made of both parties. Not sure what else to do besides find another provider.

So sad.... :)

But why are some emails coming through and not others? Jester and I were able to exchange emails through each others profile. That email comes from Groundspeak. I have received emails today for caches on my watchlist. I finally received the log notice on my archived cache. I did not receive anything back on my email to contact @ gc. That normally is generated by a bot upon receipt.

I don't understand it, but it sounds like Groundspeak will need to deal with Comcast as Comcast doesn't seem to want to do anything after we ask them to.

I figured out why the difference. My listed email is a different account that forwards to my Comcast account. PQs go to my Comcast address as would the reply to the email sent to contact.

I guess I will have to change the email address for my PQs.

From Comcast:

We are sorry to hear of the difficulties you have been experiencing.

After reviewing your email, it appears as though there might be an issue

with blocked email. To ensure correct handling of this issue, the mail

administrator for the sending domain will need to visit the following

address and submit a "Blocked Provider Request Form":

http://www.comcastsupport.com/rbl

Customer Security Assurance cannot address blacklist issues from

individual customers.

When submitting the form, suggest the mail administrator include a copy

of the email header, as well as the mail server names. The sender will

want to review the error message provided with the bounce back message

from Comcast to help identify the blocked IP address, which will be

located in an error code starting with "550." Have the mail

administrator include each IP address currently blocked so we can fully

investigate the issue. You can learn more about how to identify a

blocked IP by visiting the following page:

Also, the following links will provide additional information helpful to

resolving issues when a blocked IP sends email to the Comcast.net

domain:

Please note that Comcast is not blocking individual senders, but only

mail servers that have sent high volumes of spam to the Comcast.net

domain.

My ISP did this to me last summer . . . so I got a Gmail account and forwarded the mail from Gmail to my usual email client on my computer . . . That was the way I got around their stupidity for blocking all the Groundspeak domains, which included Geocaching.com and Waymarking.com. Gmail has been very reliable! :)

There is still some strangeness going on. I have a PQ that runs on Monday and a duplicate that runs on Friday (updates my closest unfound). The Friday one that ran and wasn't delivered, arrived this morning at 1:23am - but the data is from Friday (looking at the last logs). The one scheduled for today ran at 12:10am and hasn't arrived yet (10:30am).

Everyone be a rebel this year: Have a HAPPY Christmas and a MERRY New Year!

Now this is strange. About 30 minutes ago one of my PQs from Friday finally got here. This is the one I put in about 9:00 Friday morning (PST), not the one that ran after 1AM.

It looks more like Comcast is throttling email rather that just blocking it, but some stuff is not getting through. I have added a gmail account and now all my stuff from GC.Com goes to that address.

Beware if you change your email address for your profile they send you a validation email and those did not work when I got them, then I was locked out of my account. I had to call up GS to get validated again.

I am getting misc PQs and the timing of them make no rhyme or reason.

I had no problem getting my gmail address validated. Every PQ after I switched came through just fine.

I still have not got some querries from 48 hours ago. Thought the site was just too busy with everyone running pqs for Christmas trips. I have comcast too, so my problem might be there.

This morning I finally got the reply to my email about the problem from Groundspeak and it does state that Comcast is throttling email from gc.com. Evidently there are two mail servers which might account for the fact that some emails come through while others don't.

I had no problems with the validation process. All my GC e-mail now goes through g-mail and it is POP3'd to my client.

Good News! Plaidguy just had a support chat session with Comcast and got them to assign a ticket number to the problem. Ticket # is CR112009346

Now, if Comcast hears from a lot of Groundspeak users (and maybe a lackey or two) referencing that ticket number, we may get this throttle issue resolved. Comcast said they usually keep tickets open for 72 hours.

It seems that our good friends at Comcast incorrectly declared the throttling problem to be resolved and closed the first ticket. They tell us they can't reopen a closed ticket so we got them to open a new one: CR112374818
