+Bambography
The format is still to be decided by the committee. One possibility I'll be putting forward would be the same as most camping events. A Fri-Sun event, which gives folks a bit of flexibility of when to attend. Friday, setup day. Some attendees travel down and camp the night, stay in a hotel etc. Caching Icebreaking activities in the evening. Saturday, main event day, all activities based at the main site to encourage as much socialising as possible. Sunday morning, off site caching. Afternoon CITO event. Again, this is just one possible idea, and nothing is set in concrete just yet. That sounds fine and kind of what i'd expect. My worry was that i'd read something early on saying that a Sunday-Saturday would give people the choice of which weekend to attend, therefore spreading out the visitors by half. +Bambography
I dropped a note to Sonny & Sandy at Podcacher pointing out that you guys had started planning for this event. They said they would be more than happy to mention it, so keep your ears peeled on upcoming shows! PS Hope i've not stood on any toes doing this. Thought publicity like that could only do good! +sTeamTraen
More generally, when 500+ people (probably more like a thousand) gather in one place, you're going to need a lot of support services. It's not Glastonbury, but you'll need loos, something for lost property / lost children / first aid, etc. Quote Link to comment
+UK Mega Event Committee
Good evening UK and Europe The first committee meeting has just finished and we have thrashed out some early plans. There have been a lot of suggestions and tips on the forums and please keep them coming. Obviously we can not please everyone after all we a just a committee of normal cachers !!! Remember "WE NEED YOU...!" May I please personally put out a thank you to all those who attended tonight and also the emails of support I have had from around the country. We are trying our best to make this a success. There are a huge number of hurdles we have to contend with, some of which have just come apparant tonight, and others no doubt we will fall into in the forthcoming months. As I said we can not please everyone and I hope the decisions that were made tonight you will appreciate and help us make the event fun for all. Hopefully the event will be remembered and enjoyed by all who attend. The cache page will be upgraded in the next couple of days with further details and more importantly a date ! Thank you UK (and Europe) for your continued support. Quote Link to comment
+fishteers
"We need you" Have told all the cachers at work about this possible event and they looked at me as though i was mad, i'll work on them over the next couple of days and see if i can't drum up some support from them. +mongoose39uk
So, now you know you have numbers does that mean we are gonna have a rest from seeing it every time we turn around? Forums, profiles, cache pages, other events and even in caches. Overkill! I am going to the mega, I support the mega but am getting more than a bit overloaded with it!! Quote Link to comment

I have started placing flyers in caches. The way I see it, is that anyone who doesn't know, because they don't frequent the forums, don't get the update email and live to far away, may still want to come, so give everyone a chance to find out! +Haggis Hunter
/me looks for the cacher on the moon with no internet access for the last month. Actually I emailed several cachers that I knew didn't do the forums and at least 50% of them weren't aware of the event. All it needs is not to have the email update option selected and not visit the forums to be kept in the dark. You then of course have newbies that don't even know what an event is, never mind a mega event. Quote Link to comment
