Garmin Topo Software Differences

Recommended Posts

The 2008 version is the newest version. However, since topographic features don't change that much, if the price is right, you could just buy the older version. I have an older version of Topo on my Vista HCx, as well as City Navigator. If you get an older Version of Topo, make sure you download the newest version of Mapsource from the Garmin site.

If you use Tpop 3.2 and load WAypoint Manager, all of a sudden some features of Topo 3.2 disappear and it tells you that you are running 6.x

These are from memory, but nearly correct.

But the one thing that you do get is the ability to work with GPX files, and therefore the ability to upload and download and edit/manipulate waypoints, routes and tracks.

I think the same goes if you do not install the Waypoint Manager but install Garmins patch for Topo. But to test that out I'll have to dedicate another computer to the task.

I have TOPO U.S. 2008 and U.S. 24k National Parks installed on my Nuvi650. I noticed there is much more detail with the 2008 than the city navigator map that came pre-installed.

BTW, will it be just as accurate if I only use the TOPO 2008 for all my travels - city and off road? (uncheck the other maps)
