Uberquandary
A conversation with a friend about Myers-Briggs types and relationships got me thinking about caching types. (If you're not familiar with Myers-Briggs, check this out) Have you ever Myers-Briggs-ed yourself? If so, would you share your type? I'm going to guess that there are a lot of NT types out there, especially the puzzle hounds, since there's a very abstract appeal to geocaching. I'm also guessing that NF types will be the runner up. I'll start: I'm ENFP and my husband is INTP. Caching appeals to my extroversion because I get to interact with people whom I normally wouldn't know, it appeals to my husband's abstract-thinking type because he gets to sit around solving puzzles and figuring out offset caches, and in both cases hunting tupperware in the woods is highly impractical and panders to our Intuition (N) tendencies. +elmuyloco5
I'm ISFJ. Suprised to see that I'm introverted as I would not consider myself that way at all, but I also don't thrive on tons of friends, so maybe it's true. After reading about the types, I think I really fit an INFJ more. Most of the "N" qualities fit me. Actually, looking back at the results I got a 50% on both the "s" and the "n", wonder why they chose the "s" for me then? Weird. Edited December 5, 2007 by elmuyloco5 Quote Link to comment

The difference between Sensing/Intuitive is the difference between being concrete or abstract. For instance, I spend a lot of time pondering this and that and not much time focusing on what's in front of my face. That makes me quite Intuitive, and I normally score 90% on that part of the test. +KoosKoos
Since we're posting results, I'll play along: Your personality type is INTP. Introverted (I) 75% Extraverted (E) 25% Intuitive (N) 68% Sensing (S) 32% Thinking (T) 60% Feeling (F) 40% Perceiving (P) 82% Judging (J) 18% INTP description The mind of an INTP is both a finely-honed analytical tool and a playground of ideas. Its strongest function is introverted Thinking, which is supported by extroverted iNtuition. In other words, INTPs interact with the outer world intuitively, observing the big picture and its implications. They use their introverted T to process this information logically and abstractly, analyzing new ideas until they understand every aspect. Starting with only a vague intuition, an INTP can construct a whole new world of ideas. As an analytical tool, the INTP mind excels at solving problems and designing systems. It uses logic like a sword, slashing out irrelevant information and cutting straight to the heart of a problem. INTPs have an innate dislike of redundancy and imprecision. Their primary weakness is likely to be a tendency to overlook or become impatient with details. Details are annoying consequences of the imperfect "real" world; INTPs prefer to focus on the ideal world of intellectual constructs. INTPs enjoy playing with ideas and may enjoy arguing for fun. They are happiest when they are involved in discovering the intricacies and elegance of a complex system. They seek out natural laws and underlying principles from which they can build inventive theoretical models. When involved in these analytical and intuitive activities, they can produce ideas of startling creative brilliance. Famous fellow INTPs: CHARLES DARWIN RENE DESCARTES ALBERT EINSTEIN ABRAHAM LINCOLN BLAISE PASCAL SOCRATES Quote Link to comment

Tahosa and Sons
Well I went back and looked at the test again and I've noticed that the questions change their patterns and orders but the final results were almost the same as the first time I took this quiz. And now I may have an insight as to what and why happened when I wanted to create some caches. INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play... Now I know why the approver who lacked vision and turned down that cache about two years ago, but I prevailed and re-worked the cache and thus it became Chefs Special Hallmark features of the INTJ personality type include independence of thought, strong individualism and creativity. Persons with this personality type work best given large amounts of autonomy and creative freedom. They harbor an innate desire to express themselves; that is to be creative by conceptualizing their own intellectual designs. Analyzing and formulating complex theories are among their greatest strengths. Well I think that explains why I like complicated multis that take them all over the place. And to sum it up according to Keirsey: According to Keirsey, INTJs, or "Mastermind Rationals", are natural strategists, better than any other type at brainstorming approaches to situations. They are natural, but not eager, leaders, only stepping forward when it becomes obvious to them that they are the best for the job. Strong-willed and very self-assured, they may make this decision quickly, as they tend to make all decisions. But though they are decisive, they are always open-minded to new evidence and new ideas, flexible in their planning to accommodate changing situations. They are excellent at judging the usefulness of ideas and will apply whatever seems most efficient to them in accomplishing their clearly envisioned goals. To INTJs, what matters is getting it done, and they have a tendency to give little thought to personal cost in getting there. Uber I wish to thank you for such an thought provoking thread, now go put in on the COGEO forums to keep the pot a boiling. Quote Link to comment

If im in a brainstorming session trying to think of solutions to issues i am different to when in a process mapping session. The same applies to caching and working one is work the other is leisure at work i have work in common so its small meeting etc when geocaching we have so much in common with people we meet and how we plant / find caches we are in a different frame of mind. ESFPs love people, excitement, telling stories and having fun. The spontaneous, impulsive nature of this type is almost always entertaining. And ESFPs love to entertain -- on stage, at work, and/or at home. Social gatherings are an energy boost to these "people" people. SPs sometimes think and talk in more of a spider-web approach. Several of my ESFP friends jump from thought to thought in mid-sentence, touching here or there in a manner that's almost incoherent to the listener, but will eventually cover the waterfront by skipping on impulse from one piece of information to another. It's really quite fascinating. New! ESFPs are attracted to new ideas, new fashions, new gadgets, new ______. Perhaps it's the newness of life that attracts ESFPs to elementary education, especially to preschool and kindergarten. ESFPs love to talk to people about people. Some of the most colorful storytellers are ESFPs. Their down-to-earth, often homespun wit reflects a mischievous benevolence. Almost every ESFP loves to talk. Some can be identified by the twenty minute conversation required to ask or answer a simple factual question. Edited December 6, 2007 by briansnat Quote Link to comment

+Renegade Knight
...Odd that the results came back as an Introvert. Not what I was expecting.... It seems that the test moves you to intorvert if you trust your own judgment rather than seeking advice from the doofies that surround us. That's different than just liking and being with people, and giving those people advice because they don't like solving their own problems. That's what I noticed on the test. Just having a brain moves you to the introvert. Quote Link to comment
