travis71 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 So I got my SD card for my new Vista HCX (which has not arrived) in the mail. I got it from Amazon, & its a 2 gig Kingston card. I got it DIRECTLY from Amazon, not a vendor, so I know its not a bogus chip. However, whenever I try to format it on my machine with a card reader (vista) or on my wifes XP machine, it doesnt show it as a 2 gig device, only as a 1 gig. Anyone else have this problem, or have any idea how to deal with it? Quote
admo1972 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Are you sure is is showing as only a 1GB? A true 1GB card would show up as 920MB or so, not 1GB. A 2GB card should show up as a 1.75 GB card or so (give or take a 100 MB). What is the exact space VIsta or XP is saying is available on the card? Quote
travis71 Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 I am sorry, I made a mistake... on my wifes XP machine it DID format as a 2 gig card (1.75 or w/e) but it wont read on mine as anything other than 920, even after the format on XP. Quote
travis71 Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 I read about a hotfix patch for this, but apparently my machine already has it, & it still doesnt work. Quote
admo1972 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 So it sounds to me like the card is fine, and that it is just a Vista problem. I guess just use the XP machine with the card until Microsoft gets another service pack update for Vista. Quote
JSWilson64 Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) Are you using the same card reader on both computers? My 2GB SD card only shows up as 1GB in my camera due to hardware limitations in the camera -- If you're using two different card readers, maybe one has the same type of problem.
