theseeker999 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Well this was on the cache known as Siede, by programmer 64, we had gone for this cache before but ran out of light, we knew about where it was and returned this time and found it within a few minutes. Well now for the interesting part. then we follow the train tracks to get back and it was getting dark and we had to cross the river. there was no crossing there was the dam at kings mill, the party hall across the river, private property., but you get arrested for crossing it it was getting darker we had the machette with us that we found, not good to get arrested with. a guard was patrolling kings mill,we decided to cross in front of the dam we walked in the water not many rocks to step on, the water was very very deep machette and cameras in hand we crossed it the water raged,i thought we would get swept away it came up to above my knees the water, the guard came around nad his headlights shined on us, he stopped his car jsut out of sight, we made it to the other side all wet, we crouched along hte river side under the wall when we didnt see the guard anymore we climbed up the steep rock side and ran for out lives to the end of the parking lot and climbed around the fence and made it to the baseball field where we made our esacpe. +jindivik Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) Ummmmmm, WHAT?! thats the first thing that came to my mind too you FOUND a machete? in the woods? decided to pick it up and take it with you?.........well that was stupid...add trespassing, no wonder some people look down on geocaching, why couldn't you go back in the direction you approached the cache from? +scuba dude Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) Actually, I was refering to the whole, disconnected story. You go in to find a cache, but then don't leave by the same route? You had to cross the river, but there was no crossing? how'ed you get across it the first time? You don't want to cross the private property (the dam), so you elect to cross the stream below it (OK, I can understand that) What was that about carrying a found machette around? What was the guard doing? Shining his headlights on you or parking out of sight? It can't be both. Why were you hiding along the river? You weren't tresspassing at this point from what I can tell from reading the cache page. What exactly were you "escaping" from? What was the point of this tale? +Sioneva Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 What I want to know is if you managed to destroy the Guns of Navarone or not! Quote
TinyMoon & The Pumpkin King Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Why, were Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson part of your caching party?!? Quote
+joranda Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 You think maybe he thought he was posting a log on a cache? Quote
+Sarge104 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 What I want to know is if you managed to destroy the Guns of Navarone or not! I'm guessing a long night of no sleep combined with a lot of sugar or caffine contributed to the disjointedness of the post. Quote
+coggins Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 You think maybe he thought he was posting a log on a cache? Maybe the will clear things up. Maybe not. Quote
+scuba dude Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Well, after watching the vid, the story makes more sense. It's a post by a kid who thinks in terms of phone texting, instead of actually writing full sentences. I can also see why he's having so much trouble finding caches. Old(er) age and experience trumps youthful exuberance every time! SD Quote

Old(er) age and experience trumps youthful exuberance every time! SD Very interesting that they just happened to "find" a machete along the way to a 4 star terrain cache. How convenient. Also interesting that they found it after passing the blue dumpster (which, by the way, had a magnetic micro attached, if you were looking closely enough), but later they pass said dumpster with machete already in hand. Guys... machetes & caching are a "no-no". Bad idea, and totally unneccessary. A flame-thrower is MUCH less work! Quote
magellan315 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I wouldn’t be too hard on this cacher, I’ve done this cache and it is very difficult. The cache is located in an unused green space and the immediate area near the cache has a dense and large thicket of thorn bushes. One section is to thick to maneuver through and you need clippers for other spots. There is no defined to trail to follow and you need to do your homework on Google Earth to figure out where to park. There is a way to get to this cache that avoids a river crossing and the dam, but not the thorns. Quote
+scuba dude Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I'm not faulting the kid for doing a hard cache and having troubles. I'm just saying that his grammer and story telling skills need a LOT of work. His post was confused, disoriented and rather comical in thier faults. Quote

Watching the video, it seems obvious to me that he's whacking the machete purely for effect, chopping at brush that isn't even in his way. The bushes he's hacking can be easily walked around (in fact, he DOES just walk around them, after hacking them). OK, yeah... they're making a movie and are doing it for effect, but I'd really rather not see that tied to geocaching. Quote

There is a way to get to this cache that avoids a river crossing and the dam, but not the thorns. Ok folks, here's the deal. I grew up fishing Chester Creek when I lived in Delaware County. I know where the cache is, how the property boundaries are in the area and have watched this kid's video for the cache. Although somewhat amusing, it goes against everything I thought cachers are supposed to hold sacred. Leave no trace!!!!!!!! Regarding the area itself. It is very easy to throw on the ol' hip waders, enter at a public park, walk down stream and cross towards the cache. Sorry for the spoiler but I haven't even logged this one yet. Been doing my background work before attempting. I think it is great that a person of his age is interested in the outdoors and the adventures it can hold. But as like most of today's youth, they need to learn respect. It really upset me watching these two "adventurers" in the video curse, chop away with the machete and trespass on private property. What is it going to take before this guy gets seriously hurt, arrested or gets someone killed? Hopefully that isn't too disjointed... Quote
