+Streamertyer Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Hi all, I have a 60csx and love it for caching. Want to get more road detail and autorouting capability. Having a hard time telling what version of City Nav is compatible from the Garmin site. Can I use either NT or the non NT? Can anyone explain the feature differences (if any)between the versions (beside compression) and if there are performance differences after installing? Quote
+fratermus Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 My reading is that the 60csx will use either. It is widely reported that there is no performance difference, although conventional wisdom might suggest that cpu cycles would decrease performance. i think that NT was important for Garmin when they were trying to stuff products on then-small sd cards. I think it is unnecessary now. I'd get whichever is cheapest. A short riff on NT here. Quote
+gbarr Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I would say you are probably safe with either one, it looks like the NT only uses a different type of compression for the data. Both maps are recommended from Garmin for the Map 60CSx. I am only guessing that they new NT is a new way of compressing data and maybe even putting an unlock code on it. Just watch when you want to update your maps. Better yet you can always give Garmin a call or send an e-mail, their support staff has always been top notch when I've needed help. G Quote

Then the answer is MetroGuide (buy on eBay with no worries about unlock codes) plus MetroGold ($6) or MetroWizz (free). Not only does it cost less, but you also get that lovely "sticking it to the man" feeling for adding back the functionality Garmin removed. edited to fix borked quote Edited November 27, 2007 by JSWilson64 Quote
+Streamertyer Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 What do you guys make of this comment (from the Garmin site)?? "Some versions of City Navigator NT, such as North America and Europe, include traffic data that allows certain units to use traffic receivers." Quote
Motorcycle_Mama Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) It means exactly what it says. If your unit supports using a traffic receiver, you need to have the NT version of the maps for that traffice data to show up. Edited November 28, 2007 by Motorcycle_Mama Quote
+Streamertyer Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Does the 60csx have this capability? Quote
+THE_Chris Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 NT was cheaper when I got it, and it works Quote
+Thrak Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 With the NT version you can fit the maps for the entire US, Canada, and Puerto Rico (the entire mapset in other words) on a 1GB microSD card. With the non-NT version you must have a 2GB microSD card to accomplish the same thing. I'd say just go with the NT version since the Cx model can support it. You can get it from Amazon for $110.10 with free shipping. Here is a LINK I've ordered this exact item and can verify that it's the latest version. It's part number 010-10816-00 which is the number Garmin sells as the newest version. Quote

Specifically, what is Metro Gold or metro wizz? And what functionality is added back that Garmin took away? thanks, biGjOhn Quote
+DocDiTTo Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 There's a pinned FAQ on this subject right up at the top of the forum. Might be a good idea to check it out... Quote
