USB vs Serial

OK, here's the deal.

I presently use a Legend(B&W) with a serial connection and run EasyGPS. All is fine, no issues. I am planning to upgrade to an H chip with a USB connection and give the Legend to my child. Will I be able to load waypoints to both units? I tested adding a new unit to EasyGPS(picked the Venture HC as this will probably be the new unit) the only connection option it would give me was serial.

Thanks in advance for any advice

I use the same copy of EasyGPS to upload to my usb gpsr (60cx) and also usb-to-serial gpsr (foretrex 201). Not at the exact same moment, of course, but they can both be cabled up and I upload to one, change the target and upload to the other.

Serial is fine for waypoints and routes. It is a longterm commitment when uploading mapsets over serial though, so plan ahead. :-)

I have used both the usb and the serial ports with EasyGPS. You will have to add the USB connection to make it work, however. Go into preferences and on the mygps tab, select add gps. The, click on Add GPS. At that point you will get a menu of GPSr. That menu probably will not have the new H series units. But, if you select a gpsmap 60 csx, it should work.
