Us 4 and Jess Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) Last night at a star studded event in Covent Garden, London our very own Dorsetgal & GeoDog, aka Wendy & Caesar were presented to the press as one of four "Samsung Everyday Heroes". Wendy has been chosen to run in the Olympic Torch Relay when it passes through London next year on April 6th. Of course Caesar will be running too! Last night, Wendy & Caesar met Sir Steve Redgrave and Kimberly Walsh from Girls Aloud This new is expected to be shown on BBC Breakfast in the next day or two, and already online on the Mirrors website, maybe someone can do a link for me. Wendy wasted no time in explaining geocaching to Sir Steve and even got her Diabetes geocoin photographed with him (he's a Vice President of Diabetes UK) In addition to running in the London Olympic Torch Relay, Wendy will be travelling to China next summer to take part in events there too ... I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Wendy on such a huge achievement. You go girl!! Mandy Edited November 21, 2007 by Us 4 and Jess Quote

valliantknight Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Excellent news, a fitting honour for a caching stalwart.Well done to Wendy from The Knight and Damsel and the hounds are well impressed with Caesar Quote
Dorsetgal & GeoDog Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 (edited) Wow, wow, wow! Thank you everyone for your hearty congratulations, it is all still a bit of a dream at the moment! I'll try and answer all your questions ... I think I may have been the first to hear this news, but I'll not be the last to offer my congratulations. Well done Wendy! Mandy had the real scoop but I swore her to secrecy! You were second to know though We expect you have checked out the caches near where you will be in China. Funny you should mention that! I am not sure yet whether I shall be going to Xi'an (home of the Terracotta Warriors) at the beginnning of July or Guilin at the beginning of June. However, each city has one virtual, which I have bookmarked! Full details of the prizes here. I am one of the two people who will be running in London and then visiting China. That's the best bit as Caesar can run with me in London and I guess there is more chance of there being a wheelchair suitable stretch for me to run in central London, at least most of it is flat. Well done to you both, is the dog going to China as well? No, Caesar (shhhh, don't tell him yet) is not coming to China. Pet Passports do not cover China so he would have to be quarantined for 6 months on return, which for a 4 /5 day trip would be absurd. Also, the flights are too long for him, and culturally I don't think he would be so acceptable in China Very risky for health too, at least 30 people died of rabies in China last year ... goodness knows how many dogs! Caesar will be returning to his puppy socialiser, who raised him from 2 to 12 months of age for a weeks holiday. However, the prize is a trip for two to China so I am taking the friend who nominated me. Sir Steve is much taller than you think isn't he ! He certainly is, he was almost as tall as me when he bent to his knees to be photographed next to me! Delighted to hear this, will you be selling advertising space? Perhaps a small advert for geocaching.com Sadly, I have signed a contract and can't! However, nowt to say which TBs / coins I'll have in my pockets though! As soon as I get notice of whereabouts I'll be running, well wheeling, but you know what I mean, I shall be giving careful consideration to a celebratory cache The "do" on Tuesday night was fun, and apart from the presentations I was given a new Samsung phone and got to hold Sir Steves 5 gold medals!! I also got photos of him wth my Diabetes geocoin, (he has type 1 diabetes) and is a Vice President of Diabetes UK. See the pics in this thread Edited November 22, 2007 by Dorsetgal & GeoDog Quote
Us 4 and Jess Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 Blackmail me with chocolate, cuddly toys and geocoins and I can keep a secret for several weeks Mandy Quote

Dorsetgal & GeoDog Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 UPDATE: The Olympic Flame was lit in Ancient Olympia this morning, and starts its 130 day tour before the games. To coincide with this auspicious event, today my "Chase Your Dreams" geocoin has been put on sale. Some are on sale at Castle Coins & Pins and I shall have some in hand here in the UK later in the week. A couple more bits of publicity have appeared: On the sponsors page & following our activities at Crufts. Quote
