Big Yac Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I am looking at 3 units. All are Garmins, an eTrex Summit HC, Vista HCx, or a 60HCx. This will be used mainly for geocaching but maybe also making some tracks along various utility right of ways. I am using a friend's eTrex Legend right now and it seems to work fine but want to get my own. Thanks for any opinions. Quote
+Miragee Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Because I have a Vista HCx (an upgrade to my trusty Vista C), I would recommend that model. Once you know what the side buttons do, they are easy to use, and I prefer the little "click-stick" for navigating the menus and the maps. REI is having a sale on that model now for only $219.00. +JSWilson64 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 It depends on your intended use. I have an Etrex Legend and a 60CSx. The Legend is OK for hiking and geocaching (albeit inaccurate in the trees, but that's part of the sport). The click-stick is annoying, but usable hand-held while walking. But I abhor the click-stick, in other settings, especially when cycling or driving. I can't tell you how many times I've had to pull the Legend out of its handlebar mount to navigate a menu while cycling, because the vibrations make operating the click-stick impossible. The buttons on the 60CSx are easier to operate on the bike and in the car, IMO. Quote
gratefulHIKE Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 well if you look in the forums, time and time again we compare similar models....... when a gps model has X in it, it means that the unit takes an eXternal memory solution like a microSD card that you can save tracklogs/maps too From the three that you listed, the most bang for your buck will be the vista HCX Quote
