installing garmin maps

I just bought a new acer laptop w/ windows Vista...I have tried installing my garmin maps ...1st i insert the setup disc...then disc 1V6 & when it prompts me I insert disc 2 v6 then disc 1 again ....I then insert my version 7 upgrade & follow everything it says ....but when I click on the icon on my desktop it says Ther is a problem with the mapsource registry...Please re-install Mapsource & try again. I have done this 3 times & that error keeps popping up......what am I doing wrong

Run the setup as an administrator. Solves a lot of issues.

I have set up mapsource as administrator & was able to open maps .....but now everytime I closeout mapsource & reopen by clicking on the desktop icon I have to go back to C/:GARMIN & make mapsource the admin....I have to do this everytime I reopen mapsource....Also now when I have mapsource open it only shows me the main roads a basic map....how do I get it to show the smaller rds

That's weird. Try copying the files on the CD to your hard drive, and running the setup from there. You may have to run it as administrator the first time but hopefully not again.

thanks to all but I have solved everything...I called Garmin support & he told me to update my maps with the mapsource 6.13.4 update which is to Windows Vista...I did that & now everything works fine & I was even able to keep my cusom icons ....I am a happy caper now

Are you searching by nearest waypoints? They may all be too far away to show up. Switch to search by name and see what it finds.
