+space_man
Tonight my GPS got stolen out of my car.. I had a 60cx which i realy liked. Do you think if i report the theft to Garmin. Do any of you think they might do something about it if someone try and us it on line?? I guess im also on the market for a new 60cx now. Where is the best deal now??? maybe i should put it off till i get some money from the insurance??? Im very pissed right now about the theft as i just had everything loaded and planed a day of Geocaching. O.k thats the end of my rant for now. Alex Quote Link to comment
hyflyt
I'm pretty sure I've read that it can be tracked somehow...give Garmin a call. What would be really cool is if you could send a signal to it and have it shock the living crap out of the person. Quote Link to comment
+Chuy!
Sorry to hear that. File a police report; it don't hurt and you never know... Garmin won't/can't help out; otherwise, thiefs would call in stolen units. Quote Link to comment
+space_man
I did file a police report.. I also found out that the store MIGHT have a video in the parking lot. I sure hope so and hope it was on too. But cause it was the only thing stolen listening to the police it sounded as they have lots of more important things to deal with. Who ever took the GPS knew what they are after. They might have seen me hide it and went right after it. Didnt touch anything else in the car not even the pack which had the palm. They also put everything back togher so i wont notice its missing. Those things dont make any sence. All i got is lots of ideas why they done it. I dicided to wait a little to see what happens, before i buy another. Alex Quote Link to comment
+Green Achers
Sorry to hear that. File a police report; it don't hurt and you never know... Garmin won't/can't help out; otherwise, thiefs would call in stolen units. I'm also sorry to hear this. Sad day, huh?!! Garmin can help out. They have a serial number on each and every unit. You register that you're the owner of the unit with that number and when it's time, they send you undated firmware. You also can't upload detailed maps to it without the verification of the serial number. Garmin can help. The bad news is (as I understand it) that Garmin will not help. Regardless, I'd file a police report and notify Garmin and include the police report data so they could help. That's the best you can do. The rest is up to Garmin. As far as getting a replacement, I hope you were insured. It's you home owners policy (or Renter's insurance) that insures loose items in your car. Not your auto insurance policy for some reason. They only cover the damage of the theft and anything attached (like your stereo). It's a hassle and your deductible may exceed the claim. I hope the punk that did this gets lost and eaten by hungry bears... and your replacement comes quickly and you become happy again. Hang in there. Quote Link to comment
+pigpen4x4
I feel for ya, as I recently had a break in also. Garmin and Fuji (camera) told me to provide them the respective serial numbers, and they would get it back to if it ever went in for service. Filing a small claim on the insurance is never a good idea. You can veify this with many consumer groups who can explain it much better than I can. I am really considering installing a strong box in the floor of my truck and van, but I wonder if in time I would really use it. PP Quote Link to comment
Alphawolf
Sorry, for the theft. The only thing Garmin might do is watch for that serial # if it ever comes into their service center. I never, ever leave anything of value in my car. Period. This is why. Quote Link to comment
+Rockin Roddy
Alex, I feel for you! I too just had a break-in (in my own YARD at that), 2 GPS units, a bunch of caching gear and more than half my coin collection plus some personal coins (more than 150 coins all told) were taken. I forgot to lock my Jeep (in my yard...not had many problems before)...stupid! I wish I could help you, but it looks as if we're in the same boat! I too came here to see about prices for a GPS unit and am going to check out ebay (can't afford one now, but will be looking when the insurance finally comes through). Good luck....sad that some arses can ruin honest people's fun! Hey, at least you still have your Palm!! (gotta see a bright side...) Quote Link to comment

When I had my gps and camera stolen from my car in the parking lot of the hospital where I was working (Yes, my own stupidity.), my renters insurance paid full value without question and without any change in rates.
