does the car adaptor charge the batteries?

I have a 60csx and an i3. I have NiMh in both. Will the auto adaptor charge the batteries as well as power the unit? Or does it simply power the unit? To me it seems like they don't, but the i3 is always plugged into power, and I rarely have the 60csx plugged in long enough to charge even if it does. Looked through the manual and couldn't find any info.

Certainly not on the 60csx. Powers only. I don't know what an i3 is.

I wish it did charge the Garmins. I am curious what an i3 is too.....

Streetpilot i3. It's that teeny little garmin auto gps about the size of a baseball. It's discontinued.

I read somewhere that the usb pwr adapter does not have the amp capacity to run & charge the batteries too. Then again, the 12v 4 pin cable only powers the Cx.

Plus there is the problem of being able to use rechargeable or non-rechargeable batteries.

The Nuvi 250W has the small usb jack on the back, and the car battrery charges the unit when the car is turned on.

Garmin units with built in rechargable batteries (e.g., Quest, Nuvi, etc) charge when plugged in. Units with replaceable batteries do not. Recharging standard AA bateries can be very bad. Garmin tries to avoid fire, death and distrcution with their units whenever possible.
