Guppy Slayer
Hello all... The software version on my GPS states 2.04 Would this make the unit considerably less accurate? I think the unit is about ten years old. Can it still be updated if I buy a cable? Thanks for the help! Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
You can upgrade only to version 2.14 The later upgrades are not capable with your unit, as they are for the WAAS enabled Yellow Etrex which is the version 3.xx series. Go to https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=144&pID=6403 Then click updates. It probably won't make any difference in the accuracy of the unit though. I still own my old original yellow Etrex. gallet
Would this make the unit considerably less accurate? There's only one way to tell how accurate your gps is and it is by far the best way as well. Go to the nearest intersection where you live and stand in the middle* and mark a waypoint. Next go to gpsvisualizer.com and load the waypoint into maps.google and see how accurate it is. *watch out for traffic. Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
Even a better way. Find a USGS benchmark near you that has adjusted coordinates. Then place your unit right on it and see how accurate it is. Even my yellow Etrex is rarely more than 10 feet on one that has an open sky. Quote Link to comment
