USB File Transfer on Magellan Explorist 500

Has anyone else had difficulty with this? I had to trade in my first Explorist LE as it had another issue... since I've gotten my new one, my USB cord will recognize the unit some of the time, and then won't others. Is this the fault of the USB plug or my unit? Every single time I plug it into my computer, the unit will shut itself off about 6 or 7 times.. and then eventually stays on. But my PC will only recognize the unit about 1/2 the time.. today, it won't recognize it at all. I feel as if its not something I'm doing wrong as I've downloaded dozens of coordinates before. HELP!

There is lots of discussion on USB issues here, one thing in particular is that is shouldn't be plugged into an extension or hub.... You might ant to search on the 500 and USB in here...

I had issues with my 400 and a buddy had issues with his 500. I finally just pop out the SD card and use a card reader to transfer the info. I've had no problems since doing it this way.

The only way mine will work is with an external power source.
