+mousekakat
Ok, after wracking my little peabrain I finally have come up with some ideas for a coin! I've got an idea for a series of sorts, well, 2 different ones, but the same type of coin. So, my question is, what companies do you use to submit art to to get done into coins where you don't have to put out huge amounts of your own money? Also, what programs do you use to make the drawings/mockups of coins to submit to these companies? Is there a template anywhere, is photoshop or photoshop elements sufficient, or do I need something else? How "finished" does the mock-up need to be? Lastly, can any of you give me some tips to make this go smoother, and to possibly insure that we find someone who might like the design and be willing to do it for us? Oh yeah, and lastly lastly, lol, do the companies that take your art and make a coin out of it give you any coins, or do you have to pay for your own, as well? Thanks in advance, Naomi (if I get this done, they are going to be very colorful...and hopefully they'll be liked!) Quote Link to comment
+PengoFamily
I am sending you an email through your profile. Not too sure how much we can 'advertise' for the coin vendors. Plus it will be easier if you have questions to my response. Quote Link to comment

LoriDarlin
Question one: So, my question is, what companies do you use to submit art to to get done into coins where you don't have to put out huge amounts of your own money? There are several companies that will take your art and do it for free as long as you use them to mint your coin. You just have to check them out. At the top of the geocoin discussions is a thread that names all the vendors. Question two: Also, what programs do you use to make the drawings/mockups of coins to submit to these companies? Is there a template anywhere, is photoshop or photoshop elements sufficient, or do I need something else? How "finished" does the mock-up need to be? Any art program works. Heck even a picture on a napkin that comes from a restaurant works. (I've seen this story). They will take anything you give them and it doesn't have to be designed on a computer. Of course, the more work you do yourself, by computer, possibly the faster the process will be...I'm just pointing out that you do not have to design it yourself on the computer first. Question three: Lastly, can any of you give me some tips to make this go smoother, and to possibly insure that we find someone who might like the design and be willing to do it for us? KNOW WHAT YOU WANT HAVE A CUTE IDEA HAVE SOME SORT OF DESIGN READY TO SHOW THEM (be it hand drawn up to a nice quality .jpg) Question five: Oh yeah, and lastly lastly, lol, do the companies that take your art and make a coin out of it give you any coins, or do you have to pay for your own, as well? My only experience is getting free coins but then I haven't gone thru this process but once. Usually I fund the project myself. So I'm not very helpful with this question. Good Luck with your coin project Naomi....I'm sooooo excited for you!!!! Lori Edited October 19, 2007 by LoriDarlin Quote Link to comment

Good Luck with your coin project Naomi....I'm sooooo excited for you!!!! Lori If you do happen to find a company that gives you free coins and does a resell option on the rest, let me know too. So far I have yet to find anyone that does it this way - even though I hear a lot about it on these forums. Of course maybe I just have a bad design. I think it would be great to have a personal coin and one day I might get one. I am REALLY hoping that you can go ahead with yours. Another option is the geotag which is a trackable coin and you can put your design on 1 side with a generic back side. It's cheaper.... Quote Link to comment

I have the design, but haven't had any luck getting a response back. . .I guess that means they don't want to do it and didn't want to tell me. Oh well, it's nice to know that they can take your design and use it. We'll see about that. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote Link to comment

Keep trying; I doubt your designs were *bad* infact, i seem to remember liking yours Theotokos! Quote Link to comment
Theotokos
I'm thinking this time of year might be bad to get a coin going with all the holiday coins on the horizon. I'm going to wait to try again in the new year and see how it goes then. Quote Link to comment
+mousekakat
Theotokos, if it was the ones that you posted pics of here about 5 or 6 weeks ago, the ones with the little ichthus and world and such, I have to say that I at least loved them! Hang in there, they were great designs, just gotta find the right folks and it'll happen for you, I'm sure! Naomi Quote Link to comment

I know it's not a geocoin but I did get a set of my pathtags in the mail today that I think they turned out very well. It is one of the designs I was thinking about for a coin too. +mousekakat
I truly love it, so does hubby! He's studying to be a priest in the Evangelical Lutheran church, so you KNOW he likes the symbolism! Let me know if you ever want to send one over the pond to Sweden, we'd love to give it a home! It looks awesome! Quote Link to comment

+Kealia
I would suggest than anybody wanting to go this route wait until the new year. As mentioned, many vendors have holiday coins coming out now along with personal coins from people so inventories will be high. With the holidays, coin sales drop dramatically because of: - Holiday expenses (presents) - Holiday travel - Influx oh holiday coins I would be the coin makers would be more receptive after the holidays. I agree with this too. The one we are having done is a Christmas coin that a company just happened to like the design of. We are waiting for the art work now but I have no idea what kind of changes will be made or what? I just have to wait and see. I would also suggest making a design that would appeal to the general public instead of a personal coin. I think you more or less have to pay for the personal coins unless it is an extra special design. I just sent a couple of designs the other day and they said that the market could not support them now (whatever that means?) but they would be put on the back burner right now. Quote Link to comment
