+GOT GPS? Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Seems like when I install Garmin Comunicator, it deletes the USB Drivers, why does it do that??? As soon as the Garmin Communicator was installed, the Computer immediately said that it found new hardware, then I found my USB drivers missing. I'm at a loss as to how to prevent my lossing the stupid drivers when I install Garmin software. Is there anyway to recover the drivers without going back to Garmin's website often, to keep downloading the USB drivers over and over and over again? Quote
gallet Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Yeah I've noticed this too. I'm on a mac, so I have to go down to the local library to load maps and stuff like that. I'm going to keep a copy of the drivers on a memory stick. Why don't you just keep a copy of the driver file handy for easy reinstalling. Quote
+GOT GPS? Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) Going to do that, by having the drivers in a Garmin Directory. Funny thing is that when Windows hickuped, and did this, the Driver file was still in the windows directory, but windows would not see it, untill I browsed an old file in the Garmin Folder, then the computer saw the windows directory with the newer one. I think that windows is buggy. EDIT I am now thinking that somehow Garmin software messes up the Windows Registry sometimes, causing these errors. Edited October 14, 2007 by GOT GPS? Quote
+webscouter. Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 It's possible that Garmin Communicator requires a different driver that has a hook in it to communicate properly. This would require a new install. Unfortunately this also stops me from installing it as I don't have admin privileges on my work computer. Quote
