+olbluesguy
I reached into my pocket today and pulled out my Vista, and the Joystick was gone, broken right off . How do I go about getting it repaired, and how is Garmins reputation for service. Turnaround, repair price, etc. Tnx. O'BG Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
Garmin has excellent customer service. If you call them first thing in the morning, Central time, they will give you an RMA number to send the GPSr back. The turn-around time is very fast. Quote Link to comment
+Wadcutter
If you have any WPs on your GPS that you want to save then you need to somehow save them. The GPS you get back from Garmin won't be the same one you send them. They'll swap yours for a refurb one. Quote Link to comment
Benthic2
The only problem is if its out of warranty. They have a flat fee for any repairs. For my eTrex Legend it would have cost $99.00 to repair, and I could buy a new one for that much and not have to deal with the return process. Good luck with yours. Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
Even if it is out of warranty you can sometimes get the repair at less than the flat fee. Quote Link to comment
+EmmettDe
My personal experience with Garmin in-warranty repairs (replacements) is very good, it was fast and unproblematic (called them in the UK). This agrees with the majority of opinions I have heard so far (but not all). Quote Link to comment
+olbluesguy
Called Garmin....$ 125.00 flat rate. Probably total replacement. No reduced rate {Bummer]. I will have to talk to Santa before I decide. Quote Link to comment

I will have to talk to Santa before I decide. That's more than half the price of a new Vista HCx (as low as $232 shipped on PriceGrabber). Given the new features of the HCx over the original Vista, it doesn't seem worth it to pay that much to repair the old one. Quote Link to comment
