Moose21
I'm doing a report for school and I would like to know how many caches there are in the US. Does anyone know how many? Or could anyone tell me how to find the answer? Quote Link to comment
+Wadcutter
You could go to the "Hide & Seek A Cache" page, go thru all 50 states and WDC and add all the state totals. For your report you could also figure the cache density for each state and also the number of caches per capita for each state's population. Quote Link to comment
+Moose Mob
Wadcutter's method would be the best I could think of. Or you can ask a few question of the Groundspeak staff (by e-mail). Or be different. Only count the states that Mooses live in. Or how many cachers have Moose in thier caching name. With a little imagination, you could come up with the moost interesting statistics. crawil
This got me wondering, which states had the most caches per person and the most per square mile? Well, using USA 45's numbers and a few quick Google searches, here are the results. I couldn't figure out and easy way to copy the numbers from Excel and still have them line up, so here are screen shots: States ranked by caches per square mile (as of 10/12/2007) States ranked by caches per person (as of 10/12/2007 - using the 2006 census estimates) Quote Link to comment

+BlueDeuce
I'll bet this would match up with a bunch of other demographics, the most obvious being population. Then there's income, political, geographic, etc. What I would be interested in finding out is where it doesn't follow the norm, then trying to determine why that is. Take for instance the Great Plains forum here on this site. There's a bunch of us regulars here, but we don't normally post there. Quote Link to comment

+cache_test_dummies
And, there's no Arkansas in his lists I think he's using"Ak" instead of "AR" for Arkansas. There's an "Al" and and "Ala", which I think is probably Alabama and Alaska, respectively. Haven't figured out which state is missing yet. edit: I think Minnesota is the one that's missing. +*TnT*
But what bothers me is that there are only 283000 (presumably active) caches in the US. That means I only have 282000 left to find. Quote Link to comment

Post your results back here, TG, I'd like to see that too! Except, rather than a list, could you show it in the form of a little map of the United States, with little 3D stacks of caches in each state representing the ratios? Also, make sure you color the states red or blue based on how the states voted in the last presidential election. Quote Link to comment
