+The Cache Hoppers Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Well here we go again, caught in the grip of a Post Office strike. No offence intended towards any caching postal workers of course. I'm a bit peeved this time around because its Josh Hopper's birthday next Friday and I just know his birthday cards are going to get caught up in the backlog. Given the success of the Little Quest series which has been set up, and very nearly complete, it made me wonder whether we should do something similar with Geo Post Offices (examples here and here) and perhaps have one in every town or village so that we can remain unaffected by postal strikes. Any ideas/suggestions? Quote
markandlynn Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Its Aarons birthday today. Id like a postal worker to try and explain to a child with semantic pragmatic disorder just why he only had three cards to open this morning and one present and that his big present would arrive next week Quote
+gazooks Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I'm pretty sure than even with strikes 'Snail' mail will still be faster than geopost I sent a postcard by geopost to Canada last July (2006) and its still not arrived and I've lost track of it. Quote
+macroderma Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I don't know I sent postcards decades ago by 'normal mail' and they never arrived Quote

+Bill D (wwh) Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Happy Birthday Aaron, and I hope you've had a good day and that your big present arrives sooner than you expect...! Quote
rastan Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Happy Birthday Aaron, I'm sure you will get lots of presents anyway despite the postal strike....don't want to put a dampener on Aaron's birthday but what if Aaron's daddy worked for the Royal Mail? What would you tell him next year? "sorry son, we can't go on holiday this year because I don't have any time off because my holiday has been reduced, and my salary has been reduced so we can't afford it because all my money goes on paying the mortgage and there is nothing left over" I bet I'm gonna be slated after posting this but I also have a young family, it's very hard to make ends meet - withdrawing our labour is the only weapon we have left, what else can we do? live in poverty? And no, I don't work for Royal Mail, but I do agree with their action, even though it means I will personally be inconvenienced (just sent off for a new passport, almost certain it won't arrive before I travel to France next week). Sure someone will look at my profile and start harping on about Bob Crow, let me say now - I didn't vote for him! But he certainly looks after his members! Shame no-one else looks after anyone, I'm alright Jack seems to be the new motto. Shame. Quote

+t.a.folk Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Please don't tar all postmen as being in favour of striking . The postman who delivers our mail doesn't want to go on stike . And every day without pay will very much upset my brother's finances . He changed career to postman, from engineer ,because the hours enabled him to successfuly manage the childcare of his two young sons who mainly live with him . Quote
+Dorsetgal & GeoDog Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Best wishes for a Happy Birthday Aaron I am wondering if the strike is patchy as I have had mail each day so far. (South Dorset). Quote
+Rosie's Rangers Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Happy Birthday Aaron, Katie and Scott said thanks for the birthday cake yesterday and congratulations for your investment to Cubs. Hope you get your present soon... Quote
