I am one of those rare types of teachers that really likes to share and not horde ideas/resources. With that...I am hoping to create a thread where individuals post valuable links, activities and ideas for lesson plans that can be used in the classroom or community group.

Please take what you can use, share what you have and help me create a bank of activities.

Great introductory activities to GPS

http://www.juicygeography.co.uk/gpsschool.htm

idea: GPS connect the dots to create image

GPS golf - set a tee and a hole with distance and par for each hole. Cachers use frisbees to shoot down the course and record strokes as frisbee throws to get within 2 metres of hole. Tee/Hole can be labeled with hula hoops, driveway reflectors (the kind on the stick), flags, signs

Create own TB's - ie paper butterflies/monarchs and track their migration, Flat Stanley would work, or buy official travel bugs and track movement.

Create a scavenger hunt using google maps - or do an open hunt. Searchable by grade.

We are a group of educators from ILL.

We have two sites, one with a GPS focus,

http://www.ilega.org/

with a lesson plan site:

Also have a site for GIS and GPS together: http://www.gis2gps.com

Garmin set us up with a Garmin dealer who gives 30% off of list price on Garmin units.

basically you are getting govt prices. Very hard to beat. Shipping is reasonable as well.

Email me if you want the contact form.

I just went to purchase this item - and there is a 21 shipping fee to Canada. Argh! All that on top of having to convert to Canadian Curriculum. Anyone know of a Canadian resource like this? Anyone want to create one with me and know a publisher who would buy it?

Thanks, K
