Is there a list of the Points Of Interest for City Navigator 2008 (or v8.0)? Or any way to see the list in a text file?

I don't think that such a list exists. At least not publicly. I would imagine that it is considered extremely proprietary information. And since the data is embedded in the map data, it's not extractable.

NavTeq sells this data to Garmin and others. If it were available in some reader-usable database, who would bother to pay for it? That doesn't mean that someone hasn't hacked it, but if they have, I haven't heard about it.

I was hoping to compare the POI's from CN2008 to previous versions. I recently "upgraded" to CN 2008 and it seems that some of the previous listings have been dropped even though they are still there. I'm not sure that my "upgrade" to CN2008 was worth the money... especially with the loss of one of my unlock codes.

There are 6,114,707 poi's in City Navigator North America 2008, there are 5,428,786 poi's in City Navigator North America v8.
