Geocaching bag stolen, geocoins gone

Hi,

Some days ago, we found out that someone broke into our car and took our geocaching bag, along other things. Besides losing our stuff (such as intercom radios, flashlights, swiss army knives, etc), NINE geocoins were also taken.

It gets worse. All of those 9 geocoins belong do CachingCoins aka Sandy Nickell. Sandy sent us those coins for us to drop them at local caches. We try our best when doing that, even if that takes a while, as agreed with her.

Sandy is by far, one of the nicest persons we "met" through Geocaching, and it couldn't have happened to a better person.

We're trying to get the coins lost, by following them, posting some info about it in some local forums, etc. Though it won't be easy. Probably someone, not geocaching related is using them on a key chain or something.

So, we're asking you to help us getting new coins to replace the stolen ones. That's the least we can do for Sandy. All the help in pointing out who and where we can find them selling, let us know.

Here are the coins we're looking for:

The Great Reward

Initial Point Geocoin - Red Sandstone

Bat-Bubba's Caving Geocoin - Bat-bubba offered the coin! Fantastic. Thanks!

Newfoundland Geocoin - Cape Spear Lighthouse - Helen from Landsharkz and Dan (dflye) offered their support. Thanks a lot!

Casino Geocoin - Droo sent us his support. Thank you!

Fluttershy Geocoin - Mark (avroair) gave us a hand... Thank you so much!

Caching in the Holidays Geocoin - Mistery Gift - chief20r2 and 3doxies offered to help. Thank you!

The Geocoin Clube February 2007 - Retro Hypno - The Moop Along offered to help. Thank you!

Bitten by the White Bear Geocoin - Sooke Canada - Mark (avroair) helped us so much! Thanks!

What's in your Mailbox? V1 - ChanceRider helped us. Thank you!

We appreciate your help very much. Contact us via our profile or by email to sup3rfm@gmail.com

Thank you.

Hugo and Ana

This community is awesome. Thank you so much for your kind words, support and offers.

So far, we have received offers of the "Geocoin Clube Feb 2007 - Retro Hypno" and the "Caching in the Holidays - Mistery Gift", from The Moop Along, chief20r2 and 3doxies. Thank you very much.

Hope we can gather all that went missing.

We're not depending on your goodwill to get the replacements. So, if you have any of these coins and thought of selling them, we'll most likely buy it. We're willing to pay for any coin or shipping expenses. :P

Still, the kindness of those offering help refused any kind of payment... You guys and girls are really something! :)

Man, this is a great community. Just when you think geocoins have become so commercial, things like this just warm your heart. You guys are wonderful!

To the OP: Let me know if you need any help editing that first post again. I think you can't edit your own post anymore after a certain period of time.

It's hard not to give back. When I read this thread, I immediately thought of my own troubles just 3 months ago TMA theft

Lots of people offered to help me back then, but honestly, I never took anyone up on it. It was my stuff, and well, it's all been replaced. Losing someone else's stuff that is "in your care", well, thats even worse. I'm glad I could help out here.

It's really something to be proud of.

Helen from Landsharkz and Dan (dflye) offered their kind help! We're very, very proud to be part of this community.

Yes, they are. Besides the offers, we've been getting messages of support. Thank you so much.

So far, we managed to edit the post. That's fully updated.

One small step at the time to achieve them all! :)

@ TMP, you've been great, pal! :P

We're paying to ship these by international airmail so we're going to keep adding activated coins (Sharkz and Geckos) to the envelope until we reach the limit for that weight. Rather than just send one coin, this is an opportunity to get even more coins traveling in Europe!

Please, would someone help us to find more words to thank all these good things that are happening to us?

How can we thank all the gestures and offers?

While we were thanking on the post above, Mark aka Avroair, just offered to sent a couple of coins. That's just incredible. We are speechless.

Thanks Mark.

Thank you very, very much. It's honor to belong to such community.

We had another good news on the mail! Bat-Bubba has offered one of the coins! We're so close to recovering all of them... And it's all thanks to your kindness.

So, now that my coins are neatly packaged and ready to go... does anyone have any helpful hints for shipping from the US to Portugal? TIA!

Thanks a lot! :)

Usually, the senders declare the items as "Game tokens" with the value of $5 or something and as a gift. Our Customs won't create any kind of problems.

Guys this is incredible!!...This kind of attitudes, where a geocacher helps a completly strange person/geocacher, is one of the best things I found in geocaching.

And the first person who showed me this same will to help was SuperFM. He spend hours talking to me via IM, explaining things about geocaching and then send me some stuff via snail mail. How many guys you know would do this??

He has also done A LOT for portuguese geocaching.

I mean, if any geocacher deserves this sort of help from fellow geocachers, that's SuperFm (and Cruella :) ).

Really sad to hear the bad news, but what a great ending-eh? Hope they turn up and for your lost goods...That sucks! Ive thought about my bag being ripped off...Holy Cow would I be bummed!

Well, my friends, here's another update on this fantastic story.

Glen (aka RattlingCrew) got us an Initial Point Geocoin - an antique silver edition(!). That's another replacement!

Thank you Glen for the fantastic help. It's one of a kind geocoin.

We also sent all the Tracking Numbers and Activation Codes to Sandy (aka CachingCoins). We'll keep you updated.

We're still missing a "Great Rewards" geocoin but we guess it's hard to find one nowadays.

Still, if you see one, let us know.

Thank you so much for all the help and kind works. You rock!

Here's the coins.

... And the sad story turns into a happy one with a perfect ending. After we posted the update, we got a mail from the GPX Navigators offering their help to get a "Great Reward" geocoin!

This is simply amazing. Like Sandy wrote, we're truly blessed. What a great community.

Thank you all for everything, and we do mean everything.

If someone needs something from us, drop us a line. We'll be glad and honored to help.

Sincerely,

Hugo and Ana

Sorry to dig up this story but we need to tell another chapter.

We got all the coins lost thanks to the generosity of many listed here and some others that offered to help. Yet again, thank you all.

Still, so far we could only thank in words, sincere words. We took an extra step to make it level with everyone that supported us.

An Algarve Geocoin was sent to everyone that helped us out as a token of our gratitude.

This is not meant to be a praise to us but we hope this good story motivates more to help who is in need.

Thank you all. This community rocks.

Having gone through something similar (but on a larger scale), I can safely say that this community ROCKS!!! I've never seen or experienced such caring and generous friendship as when my caching equipment and coins were stolen!

I guess I hadn't learned my lesson as yesterday, I went to the Jeep to retrieve my newest binder and GPS....D'OH! I said I'd NEVER leave them there again! I WILL be more careful!

I was quite impressed with the lengths you went to in order to replace the stolen coins, it really said a lot about you. Late last week, just before heading off to GeoWoodstock VI, I was very pleased to receive one of the Algarve coins you sent out. Thank you so much for remembering and for the kindness you showed in sending the coin. It's a beautiful coin that I will treasure!
