so when gas hits $4.00 a gal how is it going to affect your Caching adventures. Only hit the ones close to home or car pool on your Cache runs. It is getting kind of ridiculous don't you think. 00020075.gif

It use to be your GPSr was your big investment now it's filling your tank. 000201DA.gif

Cheer up! One round of golf still costs more than one tank of gas. Plus I have a lot more fun caching all day than I would playing one round of golf. <_<

The only way to conserve is to carpool or get a car that gets double the gas mileage. I think these prices will force us into doing things that we should have been doing anyhow.

I don't like being forced . So what do we do take the bus to go Caching. And just who says we should have been doing anyhow. Libs that's who, they want to control your life instead of you having control. A bunch of socialist. 0002006A.gif

Bad choice of words on my part because nobody is "forcing" anyone not to drive their gas hogs. However, there are some available personal choices that could save you a lot of money. I was just being practical... <_< Edited by TrailGators

<_< I joined a vanpool to get to work so I can cache AFTER work. Hey..I'm saving! I could put a cache at every stop on the Orange line for you if you want me to! You could buy a day-tripper and jump off at every stop..by the time you found the cache the next trolley would arrive. It might be fun!

An event is in the making....Maybe a local tv station would like to watch as we all board the trolley and get off at each stop....What a blast!!!! How many do you think you can hide? Go for it!!!! We love your hides! Maybe John can come down and help you hide them...We are starting to hike more to save on fuel...What a concept!

There's a new train that will take you from Escondido to Oceanside for only two bucks! You can't drive there for that much! There are many stops along the way too....

:D Not to worry...most trolleys run at least 15 minutes between the trains. You get off the trolley..walk the needed amount ot the cache ( to a legal safe spot) and walk back by the time the next train comes. No need to worry about the legal train track rule. I can do it! I just have to restock my arsenal of cache containers..I used a bunch at the event. :D

We have lost space for food in the kitchen cuz she has filled up one whole cuboard with cache swag and containers etc. The first items on my honey do list are always to drill a hole in a container or make this or...... stop enabling her.... please

I want everyone to quit posting on this thread or that cute picture of John actually doing some yard work will leave the top of the page and we will all be deprived of looking at his smiling face.
We have 28 more posts after this one to enjoy that picture. If I get to post #301, I'll promise to put that picture at the top of the next page. :P I've been meaning to ask John if he'd want to bet us that he can eat 50 hard-boiled eggs in less than one hour...

 I hate it when my road is closed ALL DAY because BP shot at someone and the area is a crime scene and I can't get home and my GPS is at the house and I can't take the back way 'cause John has the 4WD. So what did I do? I did what all crazy people would do: parked at Steele Canyon High School and bushwhacked my way up the mountain...Changed out of the dirty clothes, grabbed my GPS and my bike and rode down the hill...Highway Patrol let me by..I guess CSI was wrapping up..but I would have ridden around them if I had to..back to the High School, loaded the bike and went geo-caching!!!! :D

I saw this on my Hotmail account main page...... This is one of the dates that Mark Miller says NO man would ever want to do...... this guy needs to go check into a spa remove his dress and get a body wax....

Hiking

Hiking is an activity many men look forward to with the same relish they take in reading Aristotle in the original Greek, receiving a prostate exam, or attending a Celine Dion concert. The way we see it, nature is way overrated. How many flowers can you smell? How many sunsets can you ooh and ahh over? How many coyotes can you worry about being in the vicinity? Plus, there’s no access to the Internet or email. No TV sports. Bugs everywhere. What about any of this spells fun? Unless you look at fun as the first three letters of funeral.

You want your shot of nature? Invite us to the beach at sunset. Take a blanket and a six-pack, make out for half an hour, then head home so we can get back to civilization. That’s enough nature to hold us for the next three months.

Dates NO man would ever want to go on

I hate it when my fellow teacher and noob geocaching friend gets harrassed by BP. His problem is he's mexican american and they run his license, tell him parks closed, your not allowed out here etc. I'm a true patriot at heart and am all for BP and their efforts but once you find out a person is a tax paying american you let him alone!!!!!!! This has happened to him several times now. He's trying to check out the caches near border field park, ie the bunkers, spooners mesa.

:D It appears there are a few things y'all haven't been telling me ... (1) I hate that I'm still manually inputting my coords. Okay, okay ... I'm sure you've all been there. I am totally whining. There HAS to be a better way to do this, and I bet there is. If you have a Mac is there a way to download coords into a Magellan 500? Please help ... I'd like to have an easier way to prepare for GW6. Okay, now I'm begging. (2) I had no idea John is a virtual weed whacker ... who knew? Wow, he even looks like he's enjoying it! (3) Am I supposed to be changing out of my dirty clothes BEFORE I go geocaching? Is THAT the secret?

Assuming that you have a Magellan eXplorist 500, then, yes indeed. I presume that your unit came with an RS-232 PC-interface cable. Now then, it all depends on how far you want to go with this issue.

A. You can use the "Send to GPS" button that's on any cache page to download one waypoint at a time. See the following photo to find the button in question. You'll have to accomplish a couple of one-time settings so that your GPS unit and your computer are both using the same communication baud-rate, probably 9600-baud. Using this method provides rather limited waypoint information to your GPS and waypoints will be listed by GC-number.

6dd37348-e729-444d-a3d1-2da350939bab.jpg

B. Downloading multiple waypoints at a time is the preferred way to go. To do so involves becoming a Geocaching Premium Member, installing GSAK software, and learning how to use Geocaching Pocket Queries. In this case you're looking at about $30.00 for the membership and about the same for the GSAK software license. Of course you can run GSAK for free if you don't mind a nag-screen every time you start the application.

C. Optionally you can go paperless-Geocaching with a PDA but that's another subject.

What's your first reaction, no doubt you'll have some follow-up questions.

(Probably good idea if this discussion moves over to the San Diego Banter thread.)

On the other subject, if you still have clean clothes to wear for Geocaching then you haven't been doing it right.

I don't know about ALL of 'em, Skillet ... but there are men in my geocaching world that certainly have caused me a problem, or two. Yes, I remember one of those moments SO well, too ...

I was looking for a cache in a local cemetery, and I had 2 teenage boys with me. Mhmm. There was ALOT of cactus all around, and the boys thought the cache was near it. So, I asked myself ...

"Self? Why on earth would a guy with an ID called 'grateful_dad' put a hide in the cactus??"

So you see ... from the start, I doubted the boys conclusions about the location of the hide merely due to this ID. I mean, would someone grateful do that? A dad? I'm thinkin' "no way, guys!"

Well, the boys insisted and I listened ... got closer ... and closer to the cactus. Ended up being too close. Next thing we all knew each of us had some degree of cactus imbedded into our skin. Ohhh, I'm reliving it NOW. Ouchie, ouchie!! Of the three of us, I didn't get it as bad as the boys did. Sure, I could blame myself ... but I'm trying to support your whining with a lil' of my own.

But did you find the cache and get the smiley to go along with a few little cactus needles?

Well, yes I did find the cache; I think it was a lil' skull if I remember correctly ... it happened to be on the other side of the large cactus area. I was a lil' traumatized when I found it, of course. Mhmm, no need to be goin' near (or thru) cactus. However, now I'm kinda uh ... cactus shy, if ya get my drift. AND there are more caches in that ol' cemetery just waiting for me; but I haven't been back! Maybe if you wouldn't mind sharing some of YOUR "cactus moments" with me ... well, it might help me get over it. Yeah, think of it as "encouragement whining" for the benefit of fellow cachers like me  . I'm not the only geocacher that got kissed by cactus, am I?

I don't have many cactus stories, as I tend to respect them, but that darned "noline" plant has poked me on numerous occassions. Don't know if Noline is the correct name but I am sure that I don't like it much. Not the cache hiders fault, just my inattentiveness.

There's a cache in Balboa Park named "Lost Cactus Garden" (or something like that). There is no problem until you put the cache back and stand up -- because at that point, you think you are done and you've forgotten whats going to happen when you stand up. Read the logs to see how many finders mentioned being kissed...

Nolina, and I have the same problems with that stuff. It has an evil way of putting you off guard and then getting you. I swear that stuff has little legs that allow it to move as your feet and bare legs are coming down. Coming down from the cache on Old Sugarloaf in OC, I slipped and ended up sitting on one of those d(&% things!
