+The Wombles Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Folks, There is a new cache icon for the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit, which is a huge mobile Exhibition that has just started touring locations in the US but they are requesting suggestions for international destinations. Details of the exibition are in this topic. If you want to request this exhibition comes to the UK then use this link. (To enter a UK location, enter a name in the ZIP code box which then opens a window to allow a city name). For anyone who may be going to the "It's Payback time, Folks" event next week, you might like to make a request to Jeremy that this event comes to the UK? To TPTB, if you need a big (potentially free) venue then it sounds right up the street of the Science Museum at Swindon and our event there last week went well...... Quote
+Stuey Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Thanks for drawing this to our attention Dave. I'm sure a few of us can mention it to Jeremy next Monday Quote
+Cryptik Souls Crew Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Why sit about waiting for it to come to England? I've already been and done it! Quote
+Bambography Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Depending on how this vote system works, shouldn't we all be putting in the same Postcode to stand a better chance of showing up on the system?? If the Science Museum is the right sort of place (and having been there it certainly looked it last weekend) then what is its postcode? Quote

+Cryptik Souls Crew Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I just looked at the details for requesting it, it costs "$55,000 + inbound shipping per standard 3 month booking. " Shall we have a whip round? PS - If anyone wants to see the 'wall of cachers' from within the exhibit, featuring a surprising number of UK based cachers, check out this photo (approx 2.5mb) Quote
wolfshead57 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hate to say this and don't want to sound like a whinging northerner but why London? surely if its being requested for the UK The centre of the British Isles should be its spot. That just so happens to be in the North of England, in case your wondering. (Ask OS ) In fact only a few miles from Newcastle, so i reckon the vote should go for there even if it is in the middle of a moor. Quote
wolfshead57 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Oh and I think seeing as how it costs $55k for the hire etc. You rich Southerners should pay that part. That way you won't feel left out. Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hate to say this and don't want to sound like a whinging northerner but why London? Swindon is nowhere near London. Quote
+keehotee Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hate to say this and don't want to sound like a whinging northerner but why London? I thought they were trying to get it to Swindon? (about 75 miles from London, last time I looked) Personally, I think it should come to Exeter. Quote
+keehotee Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 They could stick it on the new Science Park Stuey....... Quote
+MartyBartfast Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I think someone should plot all the active UK caches, then work out the centre of mass & put it there. Quote
+HazelS Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I think someone should plot all the active UK caches, then work out the centre of mass & put it there. Oh goody... cos then it has a chance of coming North - the BIG centres are: Chorley N Wales Oxford Hemel Hempstead Newcastle Upon Tyne mind you - i'm sure most of us would travel to it wherever it was! Quote
+Dorsetgal & GeoDog Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 My vote went in for Swindon simply because there is already a working relationship there with geocaching. I suspect many would travel to it wherever it was located, it sounds fun! Quote
+Bambography Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 One thought for Swindon is, How often does it open? Surely for this exhibit to work and infact come here, it would need to be somewhere that is open daily, have a good turn over of joe public and obviously be accessible to as many cachers as possible! As nice and perfect that swindon would be, as far as I can see its only open for their events of which there is only one more listed for this year, therefore I don't think it would work there. It is currently at a museum and cultural exhibit, so is there anywhere like that in the midlands that would hold it? Quote
+4 Badgers Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I just looked at the details for PS - If anyone wants to see the 'wall of cachers' from within the exhibit, featuring a surprising number of UK based cachers, check out this photo (approx 2.5mb) Wahey! None other than Liane and her Cache Hoppers family are there too! I vote for Swindon. Quote
wolfshead57 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Has Swindon still got that mad roundabout on the outskirts? Then I will need a gps just to get round that thing. Quote
+Firth of Forth Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) A while ago, I sent an email to the website suggesting that the show could come to the Edinburgh science festival which runs for two weeks during the Easter holidays. Never got any kind of response.... There are at least 3 Scottish cachers in the photo montage Edited September 14, 2007 by Firth of Forth Quote
