+currykev
I was out a walking last weekend, braving the wintry, windy conditions on the coast of Jersey. Why was I there?....you are probably not asking yourself! I was there as a GEOCACHEE. And I thought to myself, surely most of the members (and those non members too ) of this website are not CACHERS but are in fact CACHEES. Could someone please back me up on this....or not!!! +Team_CSG
Maybe it is just the differences in English between the ponds, but I would consider someone who places a cache as the CACHEE and the person finding it as the CACHER Quote Link to comment
Izzy and the Lizard King
Maybe it is just the differences in English between the ponds, but I would consider someone who places a cache as the CACHEE and the person finding it as the CACHER There may be differences but surely the following example is true for both sides of the Atlantic:- One who provides employment is an EMPLOYER One who finds employment is an EMPLOYEE It would only be right for geocaching to follow the same principle, wouldn't it? +Dizzley
Maybe it is just the differences in English between the ponds, but I would consider someone who places a cache as the CACHEE and the person finding it as the CACHER In anyone's English to cache means to hide. So, a cacher is someone who hides a cache. Cachee isn't really a word (except in French, see below); but if it were it would mean someone or something hidden. But as for me - I would use (geo-)cacher as anyone engaged in the hobby: both hider and seeker. Cachée is a French adjective (f) meaning hidden. Cachet - is the kind of charisma a geocacher has - consisting mostly of the aroma of peat bog, beer and nettles. Who started the Pedants' Revolt?-- Which Tyler Quote Link to comment
The Royles
I'm mostly with Dizzley, except that Geocacher is surely someone who hides OR seeks a geocache. IMO this just follows the same logic as letterboxing. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
I use cacher as generic for both hider and finder. This is a newer activity so new forms of words are valid. Quote Link to comment
+Coppers Lot
I personnally think your splitting hairs and thinking too much about this 'hobby'. Who cares what the term is. Quote Link to comment
+Team Sieni
So someone who hits you over the head whith a GPSr is a geocosher? And a dirty old man who hangs around in the bushes wearing nothing but a mac and a tupperware box (marked "contents harmless", of course) is a geoflasher?
