+SilverSurfer73
Aloha From Hawaii, I am an active cacher who will be moving from "paradise" to Rapid City in December. Yes, I know it will be COLD . I am hoping to connect with some SD cachers active in Rapid City and surrounding area. Anyone out there, feel free to contact me thru gc.com. The quality/variety of caches look intriquing. Silversurfer73 Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
Cold Winters. Hot summers. It is about 106 F right now up there. I get up to the area several times per year - some very good caches in the area. Keep in mind that the Black Hills have 2 seasons. on and off. May thru Sept = ON and thousands of tourists on every backroad. OFF = peacful scenic drives and wide open spaces. Quote Link to comment
+crookedcastle7
Maybe it ain't "paradise" weather wise, but from a geocache standpoint this place is as good as any from what I can see. This area has yet to be invaded by pointless micros and LPC's. With very few exceptions every hide I have found has had merit and one never grows tired of the geologic variety of this nicely rural part of the world! Welcome. Quote Link to comment
+Jedi Cacher
A very happy pre welcome! I take it you will be stationed at EAFB. Ellsworth is a great base but the transition from beaches and hula skirts to -30 below winters could be discouraging. I lived in the tropics of Panama for several years and always found myself missing the Black Hills and the seasons. The Black Hills offer a wide variety of activities and the caching is great. Lots of history and things to see. The fall time here is a great time to hike, the weather is perfect and the colors are inviting. Rapid City and Ellsworth is a good place for the family. Hope to meet up on the trail. Quote Link to comment
