+rasj & Stacey Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 (edited) This may be old news, but I didn't see it anywhere by searching. There's a website (www.takitwithme.com) that allows you to "upload Google My Maps directly to your Garmin GPS or convert them to GPX format." Has anyone used this feature yet? segler999 Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I'm pretty sure you are not loading maps from Google to garmin/mapsource. However, Google and garmin/mapsource can, and do, exchange data via the gpx format. I use gpx from my garmin units to Google Earth (or maps, or myriad others) to archive and plot tracks. Quote
Rhialto Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Also discussed at http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=168754 I also asked if it would be possible to insert satellite map view into an eTrex, possibly not or I would have read about it I guess. Quote
+Knight2000 Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 This may be old news, but I didn't see it anywhere by searching. There's a website (www.takeitwithme.com) that allows you to "upload Google My Maps directly to your Garmin GPS or convert them to GPX format." Has anyone used this feature yet? I was a little confused. It appears that the link you posted is similar but not the same. The link from the other thread is: http://www.takitwithme.com/ I was trying to figure JJ out at first... +rasj & Stacey Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 whoops! Fixed the link, thanks for the heads up Knight2000. Quote
BuckyBuck Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I'm not having any luck getting valid gpx code out of Takeitwithme. It won't upload to my Garmin, and Mapsource tells me gpx files created with it are not valid Mapsource files. If I look at the code, it has a bunch of warning messages in it. This is with IE and Firefox. Am I doing something wrong, or is Takeitwithme no longer working correctly? Quote

Just in case you try to type it in as a url and get nowhere. [/pedants corner] Yeah I'm on a Mac using FireFox and I use takitwithme.com all the time works great. I've sent the map data to my HCx and I've also exported the gpx file to my desktop and dragged it into Google Earth and it works well. However I will note that occasionally it won't load the gpx file. What I do now before loading it is click on "view gpx file" and check that the lat longs are there. Always seems to work then. So maybe takitwithme is a tiny bit buggy but most of the time it's spot on. Edited October 17, 2007 by gallet Quote
BuckyBuck Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Thanks for the URL correction. But TakItWithMe still doesn't work for me. I've tried it on three different Windows XP machines. Here's what my GPX files look like: <br /> <b>Warning</b>: simplexml_load_file() [<a href='function.simplexml-load-file'>function.simplexml-load-file</a>]: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&...z=7&om=1:1: parser error : EntityRef: expecting ';' in <b>/home/vzett/public_html/js/maplets.php</b> on line <b>16</b><br /> <br /> <b>Warning</b>: simplexml_load_file() [<a href='function.simplexml-load-file'>function.simplexml-load-file</a>]: pt><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl in <b>/home/vzett/public_html/js/maplets.php</b> on line <b>16</b><br /> <br /> If I try to upload it to my HCx, it craps out with an error message something like (don't have my HCx with me right now) "Syntax error message on line 6" Quote
+myotis Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I save the GE file and then use GPSbable to convert to mapsource. You can only upload tracks and waypoints. You cannot upload the maps. Quote

sversh Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Excuse me but i'll break into your conversation. I want to offer the concurrent tool - www.get-a-route.com It seems that all works. Resulting GPX is checked against official GPX XML Schema. And so on Edited October 19, 2007 by sversh Quote
