Would anyone recommend a Garmin GPS60?

Hello.

Found a Garmin GPS60 for 179.00 CDN, would this be a useful GPSr for first time geocacher?

I like the better antenna and not super interested in mapping. Mostly urban geocaching.

You would be better off with a brand new etrex H. $130 CAD new and much better reception.

Wow. Agreed. I didn't realize that they had come out with "Old Yeller" in an H edition. I would bet that when they become widely available, they'll be giving away the standard GPS60.

 

The quad helix antenna on the 60 made for better reception than the etrex line (if you held the unit upright). But the SiRFIII chip in the H units will more than make up for that. If they are priced the same, I would definitely go with the etrex H.

They're being very careful to not _say_ if it's a SirfStar III or not. They seem to be playing Mediatek and Sirf against each other so they're not saying what's in them.

Garmin doesn't, but the dealer where I got my new Vista last Friday does: it's a MediaTek MT-3 (german language only!).
