jholly
Wondering if anyone has used a usb-serial converter on the gps and hooked that up to a PDA. Does it work? TIA, Jim Quote Link to comment
lakeuk
I use one with my old Palm and garmin legend with no problems http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...ProductID=98192 Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
PDAs have no USB port, and are not USB hosts. To connect a GPS to a PDA, you must use serial protocol, and have a specific cable with the GPS connector on one end and the PDA connector on the other. Adapters only work on PCs. +EScout
To expand on the above answer, your GPSr should have a serial cable, and your PDA should have a serial cable. Connecting them together with a standard null modem adapter will often work. Sometimes you need to add some voltage to the null modem adapter. My Sony Clie has a cable with both USB and Serial in a Y at the end. The serial end works with a null modem I made which has a battery attached. Quote Link to comment
jholly
Thanks for the additional info. Lakeuk hit the nail on the head. My GPS-48 is serial but was thinking about getting a Vista Hcx, hence the question. I have a Palm. Jim Quote Link to comment
