Turn n' Burn Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I am pretty new at geocaching and was getting stuff ready to place my 1st cache today and had an interesting idea for a travelbug. I am hoping to get some feedback/help. I thought it would be fun to get one of those cheap little digital camera keychains you can find on ebay for $10-$15 and stick it in a ziplock bag with its USB cable and instructions for people to take the camera and shoot a picture or two with them in front of a piece of scenery they enjoy in their area before moving it on to a different cache. I would also ask that if they were inclined to do so, to upload the pictures from the camera and if needed, replace the batteries. First off, is this really a new idea, or have you heard of people doing this already (I generally find that my 'original' ideas already 'originated' from about 200 people ahead of me)? I think within the geocaching community, people would be respectful and supporting of the camera? I have never started a travelbug before, is it possible to assign a TB tracking # to a TB you create, or do you have to buy one from geocaching.com that comes with a tracking #? Would it be possible for people to upload the pics to my travelbug page, or would they need to email them to me? Sorry for the long post but hopefully I can feedback and suggestions?!!??! Quote
Nachtraaf Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hi TnB, I like the idea, but I am not sure if people are willing to do extras like changing batteries. Maybe it is better just to put your camera in your cache as a fix goodie (not replaceable). Then you ask your visitors to take a pic of them and once in a while you upload the pics to your detailed cache page. Sounds kinda fun too, no? Greetings, Hans Quote
briansnat Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Not a bad idea for a TB. Finders can upload the pics to their own logs and they show in your TB's gallery. One issue is that TBs frequently go missing. Your TB may live a long and happy life traveling the world snapping hundreds of photos, or some newbie may pick it up the second day out, leave the game and keep the TB. Quote
BlueDeuce Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Yep, don't release anything you aren't willing to lose. Quote
Turn n' Burn Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. I had thought of just placing the camera as a permanent piece of the cache, so maybe I will try that and see what happens, I figure $10 will be worth the experiment. I live in Vegas so maybe I will place it near the strip and let people have the option to take a picture in front of thier favorite spot in Vegas. Only problem I see is people won't want to visit the cache twice to replace the camera, so maybe I will just instruct them to keep it in a cache in the Vegas area so I can retrieve it when I need to. Let me know if there are more suggestions...and thanks. Quote
