But "swag" is just a regular dictionary word. No need for capitalization; no need to define it specially for geocaching since it means the same thing in a non-geocaching context..

What is "swag"?

some say this is short for "stuff we all get" Swag means the trade items that we swap at geocache and carry in our back packs.

 

I think this would be good to add to the glossary. I had to enter several forms before finding this information out ....

I did not know what swag meant, neither did my partner. When I searched the form, it said it was used as a geocache acronym, as follows:

 

swag was short for "stuff we all get"

 

It would just be good to add it to the Geocache glossary for us not up on our vocabulary or for those that use it as an acronym ....

What form did you search?

 

It is not a geocaching term or a geocaching acronym.

 

You can hear it used by many other people that are not geocachers.

Adding regular words to a geocaching glossary that some people do not understand would be a large undertaking. All people have different vocabularies.

 

When you don't know what words mean you can use google or a dictionary.

Since you are advocating not adding the word swag to the Geocaching Glossary page based on the fact that it is a regular dictionary word would you be willing to advocate removing any word from the Geocaching Glossary that is also a regular dictionary word and carries the same meaning as in the dictionary.

 

The list of words to remove includes:

latitude

longitude

"Sealed with a gift" is cute. I really liked that acronym, I also found "Stuff we all get" ..... but it is just a normal word in the dictionary, I find out.

 

This is the reason, I was suggesting adding it to the Geocache Glossary.

The main thing seems to be that TPTB have a lot of projects going at once. Working on Geocaching.com V2, working on Wherigo, and regular site maitenance. As you can tell from all words listed on the GeoLex, compared to the glossary there are a whole lot of things to add. Much of the wording on many pages are outdated, they'll get to it when they do. Should new words be added to the glossary? Probably. But then it comes down to if they are going to add regional words, like Georgia style. Or ones like FTFBFTL*.

 

*First to Find but fourth to log. (can't say I've seen that one used. Just an example.)

The thing is those other terms specifically relate to geocaching.

 

swag was not invented by geocachers but is a word that many people know. It does not specifically relate to geocaching. The other words mentioned, except spoiler, pretty much relate.

 

If you were a celebrity you would most definitely know what swag is.

That's interesting you stole the word from a radio announcer .... I never heard of the word and until I came to this site. I thought it was an acronym. For newbies it would be nice to have it in the geocache Glossary for quick reference ......
