Garmin map60 csx and maps

Does the maps that would be of much use ( like city navigator) have to be purchased from Garmin or will other map programs work with the 60 csx. I have a version of Streets and Trips on my computer now but, I am assuming this would not work for this?

Only garmin maps will work on the handheld out of the box. If you want to use your GPS for auto-routing you the following options:

 

purchase City Navigator NT on DVD

 

find an old version (v4 or earlier) of metroguide that auto-routes (but the maps are old)

 

"hack" newer versions metroguide so that they can auto-route (search the forums for guides)

 

Use nRoute (free from Garmin) to connect your GPS to your laptop and let the laptop do the navigation in Streets and Trips

If you plan on loading maps into your gps unit you will need the Garmin maps

I got the maps in a combination package with the beanbag mount and cigarette-lighter adapter. The combination was only $20.00 more than the retail price of the maps alone.

Was that from Garmin or someplace else?
