+tw3nty3ight Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Ok is this normal for a Legend Cx? Every cache with even the slightest cover my unit bounces my arrow goes all over the darn place. If so will this be fixed if I go buy a 60Csx or Cx? Quote
+imajeep Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Yes--they use high-sensitivity receivers, as do the new eTrex "H" models from Garmin. I started with an eTrex Vista and sold it within two weeks because of the same problem. Garmin 60 Csx completely solved the problem. I get great reception under canopy. Quote
+Miragee Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 That is probably "normal" behavior for the Legend Cx, but would not be as bad with the Vista Cx, because it has the compass. When using the Legend C, or Cx, you need to be moving at a good rate to see which way the arrow is pointing. Once you slow down, or stop, the arrow will move around. The GPS Map60Cx/CSx, or the new HCx versions, will work much better where reception is poor. Quote
+media601 Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 When I get within 100' of a cache with my Venture Cx, I ignore the arrow and watch the Distance to Next indicator. If the DTN is decreasing rapidly, I know I'm headed in the right direction. Sometimes you have to do the "bee dance" to zero in. Quote

When I get to where I'm moving too slow for my 60Cx to give me an accurate pointer, I switch over and watch the coordinates. I have a regular magnetic compass so I can find north. Around here, the third digit after the decimal works out to a little more than a step. Quote

This is exactly how I have done it with every GPSr I have owned, and usually walk right to the cache. Quote
+George1 Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 I had the same problem with my Legend C. When I stopped the needle would spin all around. There was a previous thread that addressed this issue. It fixed mine. You might give it a try. Menu>setup>marine setup>speed filter>AUTO This stopped mine from spinning. I checked my friends legend, that did not spin and that is what his was set on. Hope this helps. Quote

If so will this be fixed if I go buy a 60Csx or Cx? No, it is not normal but this topic comes up about once a month. George1 posted the solution that I was going to do just now. A lot of times setting the unit to DEMO will cause the Speed Filter to go off. Quote
