Send to GPS option?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help? Im thinking of getting a new GPS unit possible the Garmin gps 60. At the mo im using a mac osx. I want to use the send to gps option, is it as easy as connecting the gps to my computer using the usb cable and clicking on the send to gps button? will this send all the cache data to the unit?

Thanks for any help.

I use a Garmin Etrex Legend and all I do is to click on the send icon on the waypoints page and it sends the data to my Legend. I use just the one cable from PC to GPS.

Regards.....John

Same here - it was a lot easier to set up and get working that I expected.

I'm pretty sure Jeremy mentioned in an interview with the Podcacher podcast that the send to GPS garmin plug-in does not currently work with Mac OS X.

Compatible computers and Internet browsers: IBM-compatible PCs running Windows® 2000 or XP operating systems with Internet Explorer 6+ or Firefox 1.5+ | Mac Support coming soon.

How soon "soon" is, is another matter...

Don't know if it works on a Pentium Mac, if you can run windoze software (Parrallels etc).

I use a Mac and a Garmin GPSMAP60cx and find the easiest way to load waypoints is to is MacCaching http://www.maccaching.com/2007/06/09/maccaching-060/

It does require an additional stage between downloading the gpx file and transferring to the GPS, but this does allow you to assemble a bunch of waypoints (including child waypoints) and transferring them all together.

Anyway well worth looking at if you use a Mac.
