+Ray Wallace Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I am in need of help on how I can down load cache information for my area and put it on my palm Tungsten E2. I can down load Geocaches via the the PQ feature. Just don't know how too get them in a format for the palm. Can some one guide me through a method to do get them from the Geo site to my PDA? Would sure appreciate the help. My email addy is Hraywallace@bellsouth.net. Thanks and good hunting! Ray Wallace Quote
+Miragee Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I use GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) on my PC. From it I Export in the correct format for Cachemate on my Palm M500. Here is a rudimentary GSAK tutorial that might help you get started. Quote
+Ray Wallace Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Thanks for the information. I will give these programs a try. One question, How do I load cachemate on my PDA? I just got the PDA today and not too familiar with it yet. I am assuming i hot sync it from the PC to the Palm...thanks, Ray Wallace Quote
+Miragee Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Yup. When you download the Cachemate program, and unzip it, it finds the Palm Desktop software on your computer and puts itself in the correct folder so it will be installed at the next HotSync. Quote
+Mach2003 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 After you unzip cachemate, you will have to double click, the cachemate.prc, and mathlib.prc to have them "setup" for installation. Also if you want any of the add-ins, do the same with them. At least last time I did it, just unzipping the files are not quite enough. Quote
+Ray Wallace Posted June 12, 2007 Author Posted June 12, 2007 Thanks fellows for the information...I will try the whole procedure today sometime....the way I see it now. I will doownload a PQ and use the GPX file with GSAK (which I think formats the file for cachemate) and then hotsync the file with Cachemate. Of course I will read the docs for GSAK Cachemate in doing this. Again thanks to my fellow Geocachers for the great help help. Ray Wallace Quote

Ray Wallace One thing you will find out about cachemate is that the unregistered version will only allow a limited number of entries. It is well worth it to pay the $8.00 to unlock it though!!!! It's priceless to have those descriptions and 5 past logs when 10 miles out on the trail! And once you get the hang of Cachemate, you'll be VERY happy to buy the license for that as well just to get rid of the nag screen. I have become truely addicted to this combo even though I only use them three or five times a week. Quote

+icashootnstar Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Is there such a program for the BlackBerry Pearl? I've tried loading the prc file to read as an eBook. But it is just too large and difficult to navigate. Quote
+NightPilot Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Not as far as I know. The Blackberry isn't a PDA, it's a phone with push email. A Palm is a general-purpose computer, as is a PPC. Quote
+hockeyrawls Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I have been working for hours on trying to do this paperless geocaching. I installed gpx sonar on my desktop and it said that it hot synced to my palm but I can't find it on the palm. So I came to the forums and found this thread - I downloaded cachemate but now can't unzip it. I tried to hotsync it and it said it had no compatible files. My pc asks what program I want to unzip cachemate with? What is the answer to that? This is crazy confusing and taking forever.....any help would be great!! Quote

Assuming you have Windows XP, you will need to Right-Click on the .zip file, and select Extract. If you use another operating system it may be different. Do you have a Palm or Pocket PC? GPX Sonar works with Pocket PC, I believe GPX Spinner works with Palm. (Not sure, I use a Palm PDA.) Edited June 25, 2007 by Airmapper Quote
+Cardinal Red Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 You have to use an unzip utility such as WinZip. I used (and paid for) Winzip with the Windows 2000 operating system. Now my Windows XP operating system has a built in unzip utility, and it is certainly more user friendly than Winzip. Quote

OK - I used to have winzip but not anymore...don't know what happened to it but I downloaded 7 zip and was able to open and install cachemate on to my Palm (Tungsten E5) - I have GSAK on my PC so I should be all set - I am going to go read all about it and hopefully be ready to geocache tomorrow paperless! Thanks for the help! Quote
