+911turbos
For the past year or so I've been working on a Geocaching program mainly for my own use called GPSTurbo. It is a free program and you can read about it and download it at the URL: http://www.scale18.com/cgi-bin/page/gpsturbo.html Only about 5-6 people have been using it so far so it really needs some more people to use it so I can work out all the bugs. It is free licensed under the GNU GPL V2 and it is written in c++. If anyone wants to help out with the development I can send them the source code for it. Currently it is only for Windows, but I have designed it to be portable to other platforms so a Linux and a Mac version could be made if I can find someone with either of those machines who is willing to help port it. FlagFinder
the program doesnt want to work on my windows 98. is there a problem or is it my system Quote Link to comment
+911turbos
I haven't tested it on Win98 since I don't have a Win98 machine. I have tested it on WinME,XP and Vista and it works fine on those. If there is a file called "kgui.txt" or "errors.txt" or both in the folder where you ran it from can you email those to me at sales@scale18.com and I might be able to see what the problem is. +out12
I downloaded it and it seems to run fine, but how do I load a gpx file into it? Quote Link to comment
FlagFinder
it says theres a missing extension or somthing. Quote Link to comment
+switchdoc
I got it to install, looks good and I like that it uses googlemaps. I also can't figure out how to load a GPX file. How do you do it? Quote Link to comment
+Red90
I also can't figure out how to load a GPX file. How do you do it? Click on the word "menu" on the upper left and a pop up menu appears. It is not displaying Satellite images for me. Maps work fine. Quote Link to comment
+Red90
One small thing. You might want to cut down on the labels for contours on the Topo maps as it is a little cluttered. And maybe another colour other than blue as it confuses a bit with streams. The IMG rendering is quite nice. Quote Link to comment
+911turbos
I've fixed the IMG Map Topo line rendering, the lines are now black and don't display the elevation labels anymore so it is much less cluttered. Just download the latest version. Also sometimes the google satellite maps stop working, not sure why but usually about 24 hours later they magically start working again. Doesn't seem to happen with the google street maps. Cheers Kevin 911turbos Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Maybe a gray would be better for the contours. With black they are the same as roads. Sat images are working OK this morning, but it is a different computer. Quote Link to comment
FlagFinder
i will see if it loads on another computer. Quote Link to comment
+out12
OK got it now. Looks good. One thing I am not sure I like is the long name label. It seems to take up a lot of space on the map when you have alot of waypoint close to each other. Maybe a limit of letters for the label?? Quote Link to comment
+911turbos
The long label name on the map is totally customizeable. Just click on the "Draw Settings" tab. You will see an input box labeled "Waypoint name to use on map", the default setting is: ".Name(.Diff/.Terr),.Wptname" To only have the Cache name appear change it to ".Name" To change it to the 6-7 char GC name use ".Wptname" Essentially you can generate a string using any of the fields in the waypoint table. Thanks Kevin Quote Link to comment
+911turbos
With regard to Garmin IMG Topo maps, I've changed it to draw the contour lines in grey now so they should not be conused with the roads and rivers. Just grab the latest version. Thanks, Kevin Quote Link to comment

Thanks Kevin Ah yes, that's better. Another suggestion, use either the +/- on keyboard or the scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in/out. Just my preference, I don't like the button to zoom in/out as it is. Quote Link to comment
+911turbos
You can use ctrl + and ctrl - to zoom the map in and out. I'm still working on updating the documentation. Kevin Quote Link to comment
thegeofamily
A linux version would be nice. It's written in C++, so it shouldn't be too hard to compile. Where can I find the source code? Edited June 29, 2007 by thegeofamily Quote Link to comment
