+Geo-Dora Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 I have a Garmin GPSMAP 76CS that is advertised to get an EPE <3 meters. With WAAS enabled, I only get about 19-20 feet EPE. A tech at Garmin recommended resetting the unit back to factory settings (which I did), but still get only 19-20 feet EPE. Anybody have any recommendations? Quote

+briansnat Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 15-30 feet is quite common for any consumer grade handheld and is in fact the norm. You will only see 3 meter accuracy under perfect conditions. You also have to remember that the EPE is only an estimate. Even if it's showing 20 feet it could actually be more accurate (or less). Unless you are a professional surveyor, the 20 ft EPE is nothing to worry about. Quote

First, have you enabled WAAS and are you getting the "D's" on your sat bars? Second, go find a benchmark with known coordinates. Input those published coordinates into your gps as a waypoint. Do a goto to that waypoint. Compare how close you really are to the benchmark with what your EPE says. Every time I have done it I have been a couple of feet away compared with my epe which said about 12-15 feet away. Quote
+Mach2003 Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 My Legend CX reports way smaller EPE, than the GPS 10X (Sirf3, bluetooth-->palm) ever does. The GPS10X is always closer to the mark though. The math in the units that calculate the EPE is very different! Quote
+Team Darcins Digs Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 After reaquiring sats. the lowest EPE I've seen with my 76CS was 7 feet. Quote
