If a lot of people have signed up you might set off the flood/spam detection (whose threshold parameters have never been published, AFAIK).

For my events I try to remember to put "add the cache to your watchlist when you sign up" - most people do anyway - and then use notes to contact people. If they don't use the watchlist or consult the event page, they probably aren't coming anyway (and they certainly aren't if the date or venue changes :o).

methods have already been mentioned, but you could also ask people to drop you a line with their email address. This way you can add their address to a self made mailing list and blast that out. Ofcourse this would likely lead to all sorts of issues if you don't have the no how to mask everyone elses email from everyone but one, for the sake of a little net privacy.

If they're not coming they won't be reading/watching the cache page

a simple way to do this is to put your email address in the 'to' box then put all the other email addresses in the Bcc (blind carbon copy) box!

AOL users don't have a BCC box, but you can put brackets around individual addresses in the CC box, thus: (whoever@whichever.com) to blind CC them, or around all the names to hide everyone from everyone else, thus: (whoever@whichever.com, whoever@whichever.com, whoever@whichever.com) - Note the separating commas.

You at it again SP? I see you want to BCC the same person three times! :):)B):o

Only kidding in case some people didn't see the smilies.

If the issue comes up again, and you have free or extra email address capabilities, I would suggest making a special events address for yourself, and asking all who hope to attend to send you an rsvp (tell them it is so you don't have to count posted responses). Put these addresses into the address book tied to this account. Now, you can BCC the entire group at once.
